LOL He was a smart boy! That's what I do with mine, when the voice command isn't enough - point to his rear end, and he sits right down.

I wonder if the guy was giving the dog a little finger or eye signal?

About NILIF

We use certain aspects as well. Our guy was "blowin' us off" because we were giving away waayyyy too much attention. We are with him quite a bit and he's so cute! But, he's not a super mush ball kind of dog, so he was getting a little irritated with us. We didn't understand his lack of hearing commands outside was actually his being so sick of us he just did what he pleased. Why come when called if he was smothered all morning? He was probably, thinking, "What? Come to you for more smothering? No thanks!" Make sense?

A trainer recommended we give him his space and ignore him, a lot at first. Wait for him to come to us for pets & love. Have him do something for everything, etc. We scaled back having him do a trick for everything right away. We're just happy he's eating.

He is improving all the time. We figured out a routine. He gets loads of space first thing in the a.m. Around 10am he'll come looking for us, "Hey? What about me?!" Then we start giving him some lovin' Thruought the day we'll restrain ourselves now and again, it's so hard! But having him come off the fence from deer is worth it's weight in gold.

Having lived to see how Ranger has improved, I would recommend giving some of it a try if you run into any issues.

He's a Border Collie, Pointer, and ?? mixed breed. He is a "herder" for sure, with a low-ish prey drive. We think his "other breeds" may be Doberman, Greyhound, or Rottie. He loves to guard (politely-thank goodness) and track. He's not a retriever, at all.

His puppy coloring was a lot like Beethoven ^up there. But with a pointy face. When I learn how to put photos here... you'll see. :)
