Are you interested in a Swedish vallhund? The few I have know have been speedy.
I didn't know what they were and now I know I've seen several around here at agility trials! I thought they were Pem mixes! Maggie (who just joined) has a friend that has 4 for agility with nice temperaments so I'm going to contact her for more info. Thanks!

I vote ACD, and not just because I'm biased, but because they fit the description of what you're looking for so well.
Really? Even the living in the pack thing? That's really the big concern right now...then I was thinking I could just ask for a very medium temperament puppy vs the extreme that I usually ask for. One that can meld with the group well but will turn on for me in the sports I want...is that possible?

VALLHUND! So cute, spunky and energetic. Plus she'd look adorable with Eden. My friend has a Cardi & a Val and they are besties... the Val is much more drivey though, and has a little more height.

I could definitely see you with an ACD too!

I think you would get on well with (a well bred) ACD temperament, but I agree about living in the pack. It's likely that at maturity an ACD would have to go out with only certain dogs or something. But, they do lean towards more SSA or 'dog selectiveness' than wanting to kill every dog. Romeo is quick to fight say if someone knocks at the door and all the dogs run to it, or if someone runs into him chasing the ball..under stress like that. He has never once gotten into an all out fight with a female, but has fought at least once with all the boys.
Ah..here we go ;) ..

There are a few disc dog people with large packs of ACDs and ACD crosses. They might be helpful as far as tips on integrating them into groups of dogs and how life is with them in that regard. Message me and I'll hook you up.

Same goes for flyballers. Most FB cattle dogs I see are much smaller and leaner though, they remind me of terrier mixes (which they may be).

Have you considered a sport mix like a border whippet or a border staffy?
