Well, we have a Mal in the house now (foster boy, Vex), and he's awesome, but he's no GSD. LOL Obviously. I work with Mals all the live long day but I don't think I want to add one to the pack.

Koolies...well, if Linds/Sara are breeding when I finally am ready for NextAgilityDog then it will be perfect. Otherwise, I'm struggling with who I would buy a Koolie from. I like a specific look, and have certain...expectations in regards to puppy buying that are hard to get WITH the look...Jason is also sort of uncomfortable with adding the breed. But, still a possible.

I am on an ACD list, I like the breeder a lot from our emails, I'm going to stay on it. BUT, I'm not sure about adding another handful herder to the pack. Especially with the likelihood of snarkiness and potential DA.

Staffy...I have not received any help/recommendations for this breed at all. I know loads in flyball (that are usually used to produce Border Staffies, not straight Staffy), but I googled around and found a breeder that has produced some decent agility dogs (with video - yay!) and emailed to ask their advice on whether that would fit with the pack or not.

Having Vex also made me realize, I want a short dog. I don't want to have to try to cram a 40" crate into my car or need multiple 36" crates. 32" crate fit would be ideal. (aka no Lab or Chessie at this time, maybe later). I wish Cardis were faster, well FAST at all (haha), but they don't have the speed I want.

Any other breeds/ideas??

I know literally nothing about them. Are they fairly available? Health tested and all that jazz?
I'm not sure, tbh, but I've known two in agility and one in obedience. From what I've seen they are hardy, fiesty, friendly dogs. More speed than a cardi and less behavioral issues than pems.

I can see if I have any of their owners on my FB.

The Vallhund I know in agility is speedy and pretty accurate, but has a massive autoimmune disorder that means he's pretty much hairless. :(

I totally missed the PyrShep mention in this thread. Laurelin did pretty good. PyrSheps are fun loving and the most athletic dogs I can think of but yeah, they're quirky. Savvy is more similar to our Cardi (who's kinda over the top as far as Cardi go LOL) than the shepherd dogs. They're not quite as...mean as Cardis can be though LOL. I think they tend to be more cattle dog like (not ACD particularly just generic dog bred for working cows vs. sheep) than sheep dog like. With same sex household dogs though they can be manly or bitchy or they can be fine. They don't seem to have the level of SSA that is found in GSDs, more similar to Cardis or Belgians. Some of them can be pretty guardy/protective concerning their house/yard/car. Savvy is amazing but he is way more work than any other dog I have had in terms of keeping him entertained, contained and supervised. He's a crazy, crazy dog. And nope, not at all soft while working he's very bold, very impulsive and has a hard time controlling himself sometimes. I have totally created a monster training him in flyball. Totally. But he's such a good dog, so much fun, he tries very hard and will just go and go and go. He's most likely to get into trouble because he's having too good of a time...doing what you don't want him to do LOL But Pyrsheps just wanna have fun ;)

I knew someone who had Valhunds years ago and her's were very seriously dog aggressive, so that might be something to check into with the breed.

I don't know but you may enjoy a racing whippet. They are however very breakable, which may not be ideal in a house full of rambunctious dogs. (It's why I bounce around on them a lot)

Yeah, that's my big concern. I need fairly hardy...we do crate and rotate (thanks Limit and Pan), but would like them to get along in my personal pack ok...

Border Terrier?

Patterdale?

I suppose I could get a tiny field Lab..

Or just a rescue mutt :)

If you go terrier look at jadg and border terriers. They're high on my list.
What's jadg?

Well, I know someone that breeders BT and Mals and they seem to get along swimmingly so I suppose they could keep up with my GSDs...But, I'd have to be careful with the cats. A friend told me she thought Staffy's would be too slow after running a BC?

Staffys have a lot of speed to them, but they can pack a lot more punch than their comical take on life. Have you considered a well bred amstaf?

I still think a nice ACD or BC will be ideal.

Jagdterrier (autocorrect, you're wrong.)is a hard edged working terrier that hunts in a pack so less dog aggression is to be expected. Cats however may be an issue.

I doubt all standards would be fast enough for you but a standard schnauzer from my agility trainer would be a great choice as well.

jagdterrier <3

I don't think I'll every be ballsy enough to own one, so I need to live vicariously through someone else :p

Not really, I always thought if I went back to Pits I would go to shelter...which is still a possibility. Lies got an awesome little girl out of the shelter and she weighs a whopping 32 lbs.

Yup, ACD still on the list of course. I'll see if my views on BCs change as Robin and I get further along. We're training 2-3x a week for agility and since he's now "mine" vs Jason's, I have already seen a ton of temperament/personality changes. For the better.

Never heard of the Jagdterrier, will be googling! I think Schnauzers are ugly :)

A Siri is on the list too I suppose. How much does she weigh? I adored Jason's little Corgi/JRT mix, Dottie. She was awesome. I wouldn't mind my own Dottie.

Sheltie?

Low instance of DA. High energy. Smallish. Excels at agility. Herder.
Too much hair/grooming! I don't like when there is an option for poop to get stuck to hairy pantaloons. I think they're super cute, I like the ones I know, I cannot do the grooming. I'm not real thrilled with Kastle/Robin's pants but they're necessary evils at this point :)

Siri is a whopping 11ish pounds :p

She is annoyingly friendly with other dogs and completely indifferent to people she doesn't know. I think she would love living at your house, she always picks the largest dogs she can find and those are the ones she wants to play with. Lol Her toy drive is really really high, food drive is almost as high. Now that her impulse control work is kicking in she really is turning into my go anywhere dog. She is also a great cuddler when she stops moving

Just an FYI, this is Dottie - she really was awesome, I would adore a puppy version of her with better nerves...(she is phobic of thunder/fireworks/traveling)

I looked around at Jagdterriers but looks like most breeders want them to go to hunting only homes. One FB page goes on about how they are only for hunting and very demanding hunting homes, that they will not do well in the house etc etc

Would I have to worry about a JRT eventually trying to kill my cats or if I worked with them young would I be ok? I adore a dog who prefers toys over food - it shows drive in place of a lack of common sense that I love (Kastle is that way). :) Impulse control exercises are some of my fave and I work on that a lot with my young puppies/dogs and test them a lot so I think that would be ok.

I vote ACD, and not just because I'm biased, but because they fit the description of what you're looking for so well.
