Need some suggestions on a good quality dry food that has only 1 protein source and 1 grain source. Currently we are using Canidae and have been on it for well over a year. Seems we have had some allergy like issues with both dogs so I thought maybe we should try a food with one source Protein and Grain. I know they both have issues with Corn, wheat and oats.

I see Canidae does have a New Chicken one but I have not seen it sold locally yet.

Thanks for your suggestions

Thanks
I should mention that I have tried Fish and potato and no one would eat it. That goes for Duck & Potato too. I would have thought they would gobble it down. So that leaves Buffalo and Vension. Venison can be rich in itself though.

The Canidae does have the Turkey in it which if fed raw can cause gastric upset in some dogs. So I have read but I'm sure Mordy can comment if I'm wrong

bucket, any source of protein can cause gastric upset in dogs who are sensitive to it. turkey is no better and no worse. i think you are thinking about the warning that dogs can get pancreatitis from turkey, but this is in regards to overfeeding dogs who aren't used to it with people food on holidays, especially turkey skin. it doesn't really have anything to do with raw turkey.

"rich" is a term that doesn't really say anything at all. rich in what? protein? fat? both? something else? venison is generally very lean since wild animals don't have the same fat buildup as domestic ones.

if you need a simple formulation, you can try california natural. it comes in a lamb and rice and chicken and rice formula and is one of the best quality foods on the market. also, as gallien jacks mentioned, canidae's chicken & rice formula should be available soon.

you also might want to look into the different solid gold foods. they generally have a single meat source but several different types of grains. their beef andbarley for example is a nice product that isn't too high in fat if that's what you need, and a different protein source than what you've been feeding recently.

I have a highly allergenic dog she cannot eat chicken/turkey/beef. She cannot tolerate Canidae. The foods I can feed her are are Natures Variety Venison as it does not have any other protein source except lamb. But, Nature's variety has A LOT of ingredients...so if its an intolerance to other ingredients you would have to be careful.

I have also tried (with success so far) - Go! Natural Salmon & Oatmeal.
With great success - Holistic Blend - Lamb
With great success- California Naturals -Lamb - this is a great food for a break as it has very few ingredients.

You could also try a few home prepared meals as well. I give her sardines and brown/wild rice mixed with golash (veggies, yogurt etc. hemp oil, crushed flax seeds). It's always a good idea to add omega 3 fatty acids to the diet.

My Rottweiler can handle raw turkey, but she will bloat on any kibble turkey foods. So far she has bloated on Innova, EVO, Canidae, Natures Variety - chicken/turkey. I have read that the raw is easier on the stomach, and this seem to be true with Athena. Raw turkey she never bloats. Of course, all dogs are different in what they tolerate.;)
