There was an article in one of my old Great Dane Reporter magazines about a black and tan great dane. The photos were black and white, but you could clearly see the dark base with the lighter points on the dog. It was marked as a doberman would be.

IIRC, the article was about the hodgepodge of color combos that can pop up in the great dane due to all of the mixed color breedings in the earlier centuries. There was even some speculation that the tibetan mastiff played some part in the development of the breed way back when and the black/tan is a throwback to that.

Who knows? It was neat to read though. I just wish I remembered all of it.

a B&T coonhoundX is only a mongrel if it's from a show dog or a pet only dog. if it's from a hunting hound it's a grade dog and many fine grade dogs are worth more than a fat out of shape unworked showdog ;P

depending on how B&T you mean, (i'm assuming black w/ tan points)
