Just spoke to the doctor, decided to not wait an hour :p

Rocky is feeling a lot better, he still has a strong cough but he is eating his food and is much more active. They are going to keep him for a few more days, I can't wait!!!

Okay. I'll breathe a bit now ;)

I know we probably seem a bit crazy to you, but once you're family, you're family! And we're going to worry about you and yours. And we're very protective of our novice pup people and their new charges.

Thank goodness it's nothing worse, I hope he has a very speedy recovery. What a horrible way for you to start out with your first dog. But I bet it made you appreciate him all the more. You should call the breeder and def give him a piece of your mind! Give Lil Rocky kisses for me.

that is good..a few more days? why do they think he got such a bad respitory infection..have they said what caused it? virus? bacteria? could he have inhaled something? just curious. Usually an antibiotic bounces them right back. Have you talked to the breeder? IS it possible that the other litter mates have the same thing? I don't know but i would want to find out. but that is just me too...there might be someone else that is still waiting for their pup to perk up...

Hydro..i want to say this before you bring your puppy home because when you are looking at him..this will be a ton harder. There is a lot of study by serious breeders about good genetics..they are careful to the point of obsession in trying to bring forth a litter that is not only intelligent, meeting all the breed requirements, but physically sound and strong. It is a passions..a devotion to bring forth an animal like that..it is almost breathtaking when done correctly. I worked in a kennel for 20 years..the later part i ran the show. My old boss won 1 and 2 national with two siblings from the same litter..his breeding was considered the tops at the field trials where we ran dogs in competition every spring and summer. IT is a 24/7 365 passion that usually a second business must be had to keep it running. Between show costs..travel expense..and kennel cost..2 or 3 litters doesn't even break even. I will bet anything i will have a response that backs that up. A good breeder will check you out as much as u check them out. They love their dogs..and the puppies are members of the family.
I also worked in an animal warehouse..an animal he11..i thought i was making a difference for the animals..i have stated that before, but one thing that they did there was put antibiotics in the water everyday..to try to prevent an onslaught of diseases..the thing that it really does is make certain strains more powerful. That is just one of the things done there that makes buying an animal this way a risk. There are many more i won't go into here.
Enough of that i think u see where i am going. My heart just breaks for what i know you are going thru..i mean that all the way. If your puppy fails to thrive..i pray that you will still be a doggy daddy. You have the copacity to love that a dog deserves..i do not say that lightly and you are now paying the cost of our soceity in the meanest of ways. Just don't stop being a doggy daddy ok? Because of Rocky and his influence in your life already i can tell a bit about you. I feel you are a good and decent man. A dog somewhere..maybe Rocky..maybe not..will be waiting for you. I needed to say that and i hope i haven't angered u..i just hate that you have been exposed to this. I pray u understand why i wrote this..i just want you to be prepared either way..and i want u to have a good dog by your side..you've more than earned the right for one to be there. You are here for Rocky now and that is the most important thing in Rocky's world. I will hold you both in silent meditation.

A vet that encourages you to come and visit is a good vet. Make sure your vet has a positive and comforting attitude towards your situation and NEVER cuts you off or seems like they don't have time for you and your questions. It is also a good sign if they let you go back to the "treatment area" where your pooch is staying. It shows that they have nothing to hide. Take care and keep us posted. ;)

I second the last 3 posts. I have turned down many perspective buyers in the past.... one was the owner of my now "Chip ". I told her at the time that she wasn't ready for a puppy ( one of mine ) and said there would be another litter within the year with my Bubba as the stud , and I would give her the pick of the litter. We'll she chose Chip of Bubba, and every 6 months she would call me with a problem. Finally, 5 years ago she called and said she was giving him up to our Golden Rescue, which she knew I belonged to. I went to foster him and decided right away he would be mine and he never went into the adoption list . They were not dog owners !!! They did well by him....he was the first displastic pup of all my connected litters. ( both lines tested ) They spent $1600 . on pins etc...they spent probably $500 to $600 on training. So, this over probably $2600 dog is now my loving Chip who only wanted a normal loving home .

I think my breeder is a complete douche bag, my vets haven't called me to go check on my dog but I'm going to give them a surprise visit. I understand your post, I'm really new to dogs, but I just want to say that even though I may have taken the wrong path, I don't regret it at all. If I didn't, I wouldn't have my pup. From blood tests, screening, etc. Rocky is actually a really healthy pup with a respiratory infection. He doesn't have any nuerological damage or nothing. Even though I am greatly upset that I recieved him sick, I just know that when he's better he'll be great. I had him for 3 days during which he was extremely sick, and after the first day where I showed him to pee, for the next 2 days he pee'd and vomited in that one spot. Extremely smart pup.

If I were you, I would give that breeder more than a little piece of my mind!

It's good that you're going to visit Rocky. From having worked in the clinic at the HS, I can tell you for sure that dogs recover faster when they get to see someone they know every day to remind them of home. :)

Hydro...once you've got your wonderful friend home safe and sound I'm sure you'll do a lot of checking in on the breeder. My wise old mother used to say there was a reason for everything. Maybe Rocky was your reason to join the cause of bad and backyard breeders ! Bless you for taking on the fight !! I'll be soooooooooo glad when he's back home to you !!! I can see the both of you spreading education to many !

Any news? how is Rocky today?????? I hope you can see him and let him know that you are there and pulling for him..that kind of contact is the best medicine of all. When PDQ and Blazer had parvo they were my bosses prize dogs..the life time of breeding for an old man all rapped up into drop dead gorgous yellow labs..both so ill we had them in the feed barn with iv's running. I stayed with them for four days. The vet came and said he didn't think either one was going to make it, especially PDQ..but i never left them in that time. I was so tired and if i blinked they would rip out the iv so i held their heads in my lap and sang stupid songs to stay awake. ONe night PDQ started having the chyenne-stokes breathing and i was crying because i thought for sure this was it,,i was singing the national anthem for no other reason than it is hard to sing and made me concentrate (no sleep for 3 days makes u giddy) anway the breathing went back to a normal pattern and i believe it was because i was there..the next morning PDQ (stands for pretty darn quick) did a turn around..Blazer too. We made it thru the crisis and they eventually returned to the prime canines that they were. Tell your vet u need to see your pup..and tell him your still here for him.

Do let us know how Rocky II is as soon as you've returned from your vet visit. We've all been so worried about him, and will continue to be until we know he's home with you and recovered completely.

I'm sorry I'm so late in reading this thread. My, but you and Rocky have been through hell and back. I do hope he's on the mend this time and you can get on with your bond with him and get him comforatable and confident with the world.

I agree that this may be one more rung on the ladder of people understanding about the imprortance of reputable breeding and ethical, caring people. Keep us posted. Best wishes.
