I work at a doggy day care. Today I got the joy of monitering the office when a woman comes in with her dog. Dog has never been to daycare before, and she wants to leave him. Fine, I tell her it will be $20 for the day, and she needs to fill out some paperwork, release of liability, etc...
Well.....can't she pay at pickup?
No, policy is pay at drop off
$20 seems like a lot of money for one day.....
I told her that it is in line with what other day cares in the area charge, but if she would rather take the paperwork home and think about it, that was fine too, we are open 7 days a week.
Can't she just leave Fluffy here....
No.
What if she just walks out right now? Nothing is stopping her.
This is when I started getting the cold feeling. I told her that if she did that, I would declare Fluffy abandoned and call AC to come get him. Without the paperwork, I have no legal rights to keep Fluffy and the daycare will not assume that responsibility.
Can you all see where this is going? Yep, she left Fluffy in my lobby. I called AC, and they came out and retrieved him.
I'm sure this is going to be ugly when she comes to get him and he's gone. I left an extremely apologetic note for the next person and I'll be sure to update you guys on what happens.
Seriously, who abandons their dog over $20? To a stranger who knows nothing about him, not even if he's UTD on shots or friendly? If she thinks $20 is bad, wait until she finds out what animal control is going to charge her to have him released.
