I work at a doggy day care. Today I got the joy of monitering the office when a woman comes in with her dog. Dog has never been to daycare before, and she wants to leave him. Fine, I tell her it will be $20 for the day, and she needs to fill out some paperwork, release of liability, etc...
Well.....can't she pay at pickup?
No, policy is pay at drop off
$20 seems like a lot of money for one day.....
I told her that it is in line with what other day cares in the area charge, but if she would rather take the paperwork home and think about it, that was fine too, we are open 7 days a week.
Can't she just leave Fluffy here....
No.
What if she just walks out right now? Nothing is stopping her.
This is when I started getting the cold feeling. I told her that if she did that, I would declare Fluffy abandoned and call AC to come get him. Without the paperwork, I have no legal rights to keep Fluffy and the daycare will not assume that responsibility.
Can you all see where this is going? Yep, she left Fluffy in my lobby. I called AC, and they came out and retrieved him.
I'm sure this is going to be ugly when she comes to get him and he's gone. I left an extremely apologetic note for the next person and I'll be sure to update you guys on what happens.
Seriously, who abandons their dog over $20? To a stranger who knows nothing about him, not even if he's UTD on shots or friendly? If she thinks $20 is bad, wait until she finds out what animal control is going to charge her to have him released.

Can ya stand a fourth vote that she was trying to find a way to abandon that dog?

My guess is she didn't wanna pay the $20 daycare fee and will never worry about AC's bail-out fee because she's not coming back. Jerk probably didn't want to pay whatever the incoming fee might be at your local AC shelter ... and instead went looking for some "free" way to abandon her dog. Otherwise, what would be the difference if she paid ahead or paid on pickup? WHY should it have mattered?

People suck!

Suprise, suprise, she DID show up to get Fluffy at closing! Apparently the cursing could be heard at the business next door when she found out that not only was Fluffy no longer present, but due to the time, AC was closed and she was going to have to wait until the next day to get him.
It was so strange, because it was like the woman genuinely could not understand that, no, the world does not revolve around her and Fluffy, and we are a business that already carries a lot of liability and can not assume extra.
End of story, I'm sure Fluffy is now home with mom, who really does seem to love him. She just doesn't seem to get it.

I was going to vote with the rest that she WANTED to abandon fluffy :(

I am shocked that she came back for him, and I betcha she was REALLY POd to find out picking him up from AC probably cost her more than $20.00 :rofl1:

The nerve of her to walk out after being told that you would call AC, and all over twenty bucks? I just can't imagine.........

Wonder if she has kids? :yikes::lol-sign:

This thread brings back memories from when I worked at the grooming place. People are crazy when it comes to their animals.

Of course, many of the problems at the grooming place could have been avoided if the owner hadn't been so against giving people their money back; he would do everything in his power to avoid giving refunds.

I think its pretty much that she doesn't understand that the world doesn't revolve around her and Fluffy, frankly. She probably didn't have the cash (and didn't want to use a card or didn't have one) on her, and didn't have time to fill out the paperwork, so figured, what are you going to do . . .actually call AC? I bet that was a surprise!

I hope AC was nice to poor Fluffy though. I bet he was a confused little thing.

Mmm.. I have had a dog abandoned at daycare before. It was my second sa turday shift working alone. He said we was only leaving him for 3 hrs or so,.. he filled out paperwork and paid up front, and.. at closing time he never came back for him. We called his number many many times, left messages, nope never called back. I waited an extra hour before my boss came, and she also waited an extra 45 minutes. So, the poor pup went to AC.

Geez...way to give Fluffy a super stressful day. What a moron. :(

When I was working reception at an animal hospital a woman came in with a big, old, sick white cat in a crate. When I asked her what was wrong with him she said..."you know, it's my mom's cat. She'd know more than I will...let me go check with her. She's in the car."

I waited....and waited....and waited. After 20 minutes we put the cat on oxygen cause it was looking so crappy. And waited and waited... We called the SPCA 2 hours later. She totally ditched her old, sick cat. So sad. And what a liar. It doesn't cost anything to surrender an animal to the SPCA here, or she could have at least given me some information about him. We didn't know his name, age, or even WHAT THE HEALTH ISSUE WAS! Like, geez people.

That's a felony in the state of Louisiana. I would've written down her license plate number and then called the cops and let them deal with it. A nice hefty fine might prevent her from getting another animal too soon.

Truly bizarre. She probably planned it from the beginning figuring a day care would find the dog a good home.

Can you imagine running into her at the mall months later?

Wow, what an idiotic lady.

I remember the days working at the animal shelter. People who came in were out of line. I felt like smacking them.

How bizarre. All I can think of is maybe she had some mental problem where she has trouble processing what people say? Because otherwise why would it be a surprise when you call AC for Fluffy when you just told her you would call AC if she left Fluffy?

But then again, maybe she's just stupid.
