I''ve been a mod on a few forums now and am currently a mod on 4, used to be 5 but one of the forums recently shut down due to inactivity (it was a really new forum and the admin did nothing to advertise it or intice members). Being a mod has its moments. Its nice to be able to have the power to edit someone being flat out mean but at the same time sometimes its nice to be able to sit back and say ""Ah well, not my problem here!"" LOL

In my experience of being on a great number of forums and experiencing one of these on every single one.

If this is so have you ever stopped and asked yourself why? That maybe it is you that has the problem and the mods are just doing thier jobs to edit out the drivel ? Or possibly edit out the stuff that has been posted and is offensive ? Nah, couldn't could be you could it?

Hatz off to all moderators you do a tough thankless job I think you all deserve a round of applause.

**** CLAPS LOUDLY *****:hail:

I have to say i agree with Tessa. On a lot of boards there is often at least one mod that doesn't have a clue. To be honest though... on this board... other than one or two people... I couldn't even tell you who the mods are here.

On another board I am on.... a mod totally deleted a thread because it "might" break out into a debate. In my opinion... if you are that sensitive then you have no business being a moderator. Not to mention this thread was posted in a section totally dedicated to threads that could end up in debate.... but this particular thread was perfectly civil and was a simple exchange of opinion... there was not one thing said out of line. She deleted the thread because she "didn't want to have to deal with politics on line because she sees how badly it can be in real life" well IMO, that is not a good enough reason to delete a thread that people put a lot of time and thinking into posting on and was in no way heated. she has also done this on many other occassions and deleted posts just because she didn't agree with what the person said. My biased opinion? Perhaps... but that opinion was shared by many on the board.

That sounds terrible and unfair Sparks. So, what did you do? You came to Chazhound and dumped that other forum, right? That's the great thing, that there are so many, many forums. If someone doesn't like one for whatever reason, they are free to go elsewhere.

It's going to happen that not everyone in the huge membership that is this forum as well as others, is going to agree with every single person, be it a member or a mod. That's just the way it goes. It's actually quite representative of life itself. Things definitely do not go to our liking much of the time. We just struggle along and deal with it the best we can.

Now, back to why I am a mod: Because I'm adorable and fair, honest and diplomatic always, never make mistakes or misunderstand anything....without exception, no matter what. ROFLOL!

Other than the time I got moderated, I think most of the choices mods have made were in the best interest of the community.

;) Buckshot, Chaz and Blue were feeling outnumbered. You evened the estrogen/testosterone balance.
Actually Renee, I was referring to the time you moderated me for having an avatar that was entirely too funny. :lol-sign:

I never even got to try the "two guys romancing a watermelon" avatar. I figured if the cussing kid with the boot knife wasnt going to fly, that one never would.

Personally .... I love my fellow Mods !!! I think I was made one as an age over beauty thingie ......besides , they know I'm on here way too much , so they can go off, fish with Chaz, bask in the sun, play with their dogs ( or significant others ) while I sweat here !! Personally I feel if only 1 or 2 are disliked here , it's a compliment to Chaz !!! If anyone has a complaint about us don't whine here ....go to the main guy !

I think that hits the nail on the head. Nobody likes having their posts edited or deleted. And I guess there are people who get a "forced vacation" from one forum and hop to the next, badmouthing the mods on whatever forum or forums they got banned from. I am a mod on another forum and I know sometimes that people are going to be miffed because they honestly don't see what triggered an edit/delete. And can you believe :yikes: there are people who you try to educate and say "look, you cannot be posting stuff like this" and instead of taking it to heart they start giving you crap.

Each forum has its own guiding principles and also a setpoint for what is considered acceptable and as a noob you might not see it. I personally prefer forums with a strict zero tolerance for bashing. This does not mean that the "nice police" have to come by and take all the spice out of everything. There was one forum I left because there was never any controversy-mods stamped it out relentlessly. But if there is too much bashing then all you do is continuously run off the noobs which is also not good.

But whatever forum you are on if a mod gives you a heads up you are wise to take it. (duh!)
