Given BR's public stances on DA in pitties, I'd be surprised if they hadn't mentioned it. The bits I saw (I didn't see anything like all of it) seemed to be very heavily edited.
Ahh. That was actually discussed in my forum. Given the media's true nature, it wouldn't surprise me if there was actually some good stuff said, but it was edited out as we all know only sensationalism brings in viewers.

Could it be that they were surprised, not because pitties are DA, but because these dogs were TRAINED to attack other dogs? That's how I'd have interpreted that, even with my belief that pitties are somewhat more inclined to be DA than other breeds. If I'd been in their place, I'd be SHOCKED that they weren't DA, honestly.
Surprise, maybe.

But there is a lot written in history about pit dogs that knew when it was time to work and when it wasn't. Although one might not consider them the norm, there are pictures of Ch. & Gr. Ch. pit dogs lounging around with other canines getting along just fine. Many dogs know the difference between fighting a dog in a pit and dogs outside of the pit.

As for them not being DA, again, it could very well be that this info was hidden from the public view. It could be that the dogs have not truly matured/turned on yet.

Also, I understand it that the dogs sent to Best Friends are the "incurable" DA ones with the exception of the one that was killed for it's DA.

Most of the Vick dogs in the BR program are dog social or selective and most are mature. Hector is about 4-5 years old and does fine with other dogs (though Paco *hated* him), yet he's covered in fight wounds so you know he was rolled.

The dog that was put down was not for DA but because it had an incredibly unstable temperament and had completely deteriorated in the kennel environment.

pacopoe.. the video is not showing. do you have another link I could use?
Just looked and it said the video's been removed, and if you read the comments below where it was I think you can see why they pulled it... the case pisses everyone off, yay!

I missed the last few minutes of it, but for the most part I think the show was a good step in giving people a new perspective on the dogs. I do agree with Mia, that more could have been said about DA, but I'm still glad they aired the program. It likely got a lot of viewers, and at the very least debunked a lot of misinformed preconceptions about the breed being inherently "bad."

I was only able the watch the last half of Animal Witness... but I really enjoyed that half. I love Badrap, and I've had the opportunity to meet some of the founders, and they are who I would go to if/when I adopt a Pittie. I thought it was VERY moving.

It was pretty shocking to hear that most of the dogs were not DA; but I highly doubt that Badrap would lie about any of them. They do have a plethora of information, about DA, on their website. I'm sure the special could have been handled much, much better (if Mia was the producer : D) but honestly, it's a breath of fresh air, to me. It is not perfect by any means, but angelizing Pit Bulls is a whole lot better than villainizing them... at least it's a step in the right direction. And, for all we know, Badrap could have provided plenty of insight about DA and handling Pit Bulls, but it might have been cut out. After all, it was only an hour show, and I think the goal was more to stir emotions than anything.
