It realy was!! I must warn you that they do show videos of actual fights, so if you think you can't watch these videos I sugest to look away wile they are playing them:( John was watching it with me and he just felt too bad to watch the fights, specialy b/c we own pit bulls so I think we took it more personal.

I watched it. IMO they showed too many clips of dogs fighting. I think they could have gotten the point across with just a few clips. I did like that they talked about how pit bulls were considered the greatest family dogs back in the day, and I liked how they brought up the temperament test stats (pit bulls do very well on TTs). I did NOT like how they had a guy from HSUS and a guy from PeTA on there making statements. HSUS and PeTA BOTH wanted those dogs KILLED. Hypocrites. When they were on I was yelling at my TV to shut up.

I do wish that they had mentioned that break sticks are a good tool for any dog owner to have around in case of a dog fight, but oh well.

My response crossposted from another forum:

2 things worry me:

1) they gave wonderful how-to advice in terms of how to hold/stage a dog fight. That pisses me off.

2) they went on and on about how dog friendly the dogs are and how great pit bulls get along. It's this laid-back train of thought that allows the crap to happen that is spurring BSL all across the country.

Although I loved seeing the dogs, I truly think they missed a wonderful opportunity to tell the truth about these dogs. Of course they need to emphasize the human-loving nature, but to omit the part about DA and what it takes to be a responsible owner is no better than to talk about their locking jaws.

And for the record, I've owned & own many APBTs that like/love to fight. I've NEVER encouraged it nor do I ask them to fight another dog for me. And again, the true history of the breed needs to be explained and not just trying to cover it up by saying the dogs only fight to please their owners. Yes, the dogs want to please the owners, but many APBTs enjoy fighting just as many Thoroughbreds enjoy running/racing and many hounds enjoy hunting.......etc. Regardless of how you feel about their purpose and why they were bred, it is what they were bred for. Accept it and move on. Don't deny it and pretend they are just short, muscular Golden Retrievers with short hair.

and a friend's response as well:

I have an issue with these 2 things, and a few more, but overall I can say that I am glad that they focused specifically on the Vick case and tended not to generalize.

1) is the paraphenelia issue. The footage of dudes trying to use parting sticks (unsuccessfully mind you) and the specific link to illegal activity burns me. Not to say that they are not used in this fashion, but again not anyone owning a parting stick is a dog fighter...in fact it is the responsible thing to own regardless of the ill association IMO. Also they rolled footage of taking a trailer load of treadmills etc. and discussed the idea that "all of the signs" of dog fighting were there. Again...the parallel is made that owning condtioning equipment again links one to dog fighitng. It may be used in dog fighting operations, but again is not exclusive there.

2) I absolutely hate when they keep replaying the same footage over and over and over again in these types of shows. For example, there was video that was supposedly confiscated from dog fighting busts where a brindle dog (turning and snapping mind you) was faced off against a much smaller black dog. They must have replayed that 10 seconds of film 50 times in the hour long broadcast. They did it the same with other clips. What is the main idea here? My interpretation is that there is not that much footage attained as some would lead you to believe so they keep replaying the same ****. It's just bad taste to keep replaying the same **** over and over again.

3) They did though labor to demonstrate a difference between professional and street dog fighting. Even mentioning that the worst of hte worst cases of neglect and abuse ocur at the street level. I felt though that they did glorify street dog fighting as a result of the videos they showed and I discussed above.

4) I usually just shook my head, but the only time I yelled outloud was when John Goodwin accused Micheal Vick of having murdered dozens of animals. Thank you for your insight and intellectual prowess Mr Goodwin, but according to the indictment, trial, and conviction it was 8 animals. Evidence says 8...err on the side of 8 asshole. I felt that it was a low blow in a case that has already been tried federally and still pending state charges.

Yeah Mia, I noticed #1. I didn't notice them talking about how DOG friendly they were, I just thought they were talking about how friendly they were to humans.

I just want to see the truth. I want the truth, that these dogs are wonderful human companions and love their humans despite if they were ever fought or not, to be talked about. I don't want to people to omit the fact that DA runs in the breed and I sure as hell don't want people sugarcoating about how great all the dogs are with other dogs and how none were DA (well, except for the poor dog that got killed because it didn't play all nicey with other dogs). And don't think I didn't read the part at the end about how the rest went to a sanctuary. Yeah, they'll go live the rest of their lives in yet another concrete kennel with little human interaction and every so often a worker will try yet again to force 2 dogs to live in peace and harmony in the same kennel and yet again that worker will express "sadness" and "dismay" that the dogs keep fighting one another (yes, this is happening at Best Friends). IMO it's no worse for dogs to be getting into "accidental" fights vs. staged ones. A fight is a fight.

Goodwin can go jump off a cliff for all I care. He is no more reputable than Vick and I cannot believe that people still allow him to speak on national television. He's hardly ever allowed to be on the prosecutions side in the first place as it seems convicted terrorists are an easy target for the defense.

And again, it's not a "miracle" that these dogs turned out to be wonderful dogs. Anyone who knows the APBT and anyone who owns and loves these breeds know that this is just because of their innate temperament. It has nothing to do with the doings of all these "experts."

And one thing I would personally like to know is how many dogs were pushed to the side in order to take in the Vick dogs. I know that a few shelters & rescues out there actually euthanized some of their dogs to take in Katrina dogs. And that's a disgusting act to me. Just because a famous or infamous dog goes up for the having doesn't mean a non-famous/infamous should have to die. It doesn't matter if the dogs came from Vick's yard, Bill Clinton's yard, or the drug dealing prostitute down the street, they should all be equal in terms of being given a chance.

It was at the end when they were showcasing how BadRap pulled the dogs and transported them back to CA.

I don't have an issue with them saying that "some of these dogs have no problems with other dogs." My issues comes with the fact that they had a great opportunity to explain DA and how it can be handled/managed and how it has nothing to do with HA and yet they conveniently left it all out.

I talked to my neighbor, whom is what we both consider a "casual pit bull owner." I asked him last night what he thought of it and how he took certain aspects of the show and he stated that if he truly didn't know better, he would believe that "pit bulls" are not DA and they can get along all wonderful in a pack with no problems whatsoever. He even mentioned he's afraid that the show will have a bunch of "bleeding heart" yet somewhat uneducated/ignorant people running out to adopt a pit bull now. These dogs do need to be given a chance, but they also need the right owners.

I watched it and they didn't say ANYTHING about pit bulls not being DA, but they didn't mention that they could which I thought they should have added. Otherwise, good pit bull press, in my opinion.:)

i am so utterly and overwhelmingly frustrated lately by the flurry of pro-pit bull bloggers who are absolutely adamant that pit bulls are not inherently dog aggressive. there is no genetic proof that aggression is heritable! blah blah blah. you cannot breed for aggression! pit bulls aren't *really* dog aggressive as a breed, because i've met 87 and none of them were!

it frustrates the hell out of me because good dogs die for no reason in the hands of people like that and the people who believe them.

what is so freaking bad and wrong about pit bulls being more prone to dog aggression than many other breeds? no, there's probably not one single aggression gene, but aggression is a complex mechanism that doesn't occur in a void, so that's no big surprise. but i'm sorry, it may be "just lore" but if all dogs were created equal, why aren't the dog fighters fighting, say, malamutes?

Do you guys think it's possible that Badrap could've mentioned that they are dog aggressive, and the need to be educated about that fact, but it got edited out?

Anything is possible in terms of media publications.

But then again, I would NEVER team up with the KKK to do a segment on love and togetherness either.

They stated that they were suprised the dogs were not aggressive to other dogs and that they got along quite well with other dogs. That statement would be fine if they went on to discuss DA and how to manage it. But they didn't. So to state that alone is basically saying that everyone else who has spent countless hours trying to get people to understand DA is a stupid liar who doesn't have a clue as to what they are talking about.

Could it be that they were surprised, not because pitties are DA, but because these dogs were TRAINED to attack other dogs? That's how I'd have interpreted that, even with my belief that pitties are somewhat more inclined to be DA than other breeds. If I'd been in their place, I'd be SHOCKED that they weren't DA, honestly.

Given BR's public stances on DA in pitties, I'd be surprised if they hadn't mentioned it. The bits I saw (I didn't see anything like all of it) seemed to be very heavily edited.

I didn't watch it, I actually don't watch a whole heck of a lot of TV(yet I continue to pay $200 to cablevision... IDK why? LOL) and usually miss things because I forget that they're going to be on... when is the rerun?

I'm the same way about shows on tv, but I posted a link so you can watch the whole show, it's in my thread above. I just watched it this morning.

It was heavily edited, BR is very pro-teaching the public about DA. Though, since media folks are prone to just throw out that word "agression" my guess is that they're pretty careful about how they use it, lest things get edited incorrectly (all of a sudden, "It's normal for pit bull to show some level of dog aggression," becomes, "It's normal for pit bulls to show... aggression."). It's happened NUMEROUS times before.
