When I had horrendous vet bills, I often thought, boy....would it ever be nice to be married to a vet. There were times when I had lots of land clearing to do and thought how helpful it would be to have a husband that was an excavator. I contracted the building of my own house once upon a time and all those sub contractors are very expensive. I wished I were married to a builder who could do all or most of the phases of building. Now, I'm again seriously considering a move and again thinking how profitable it would be to have a husband or b.f. who could take on the building process and do most of the work. :rofl1:

Sure, there are those who don't need or care about having a spouse (can go both ways....both sexes) who has talents in certain areas because maybe they can rely soley on themselves or like to rely just on themselves. But for those who wouldn't mind having half the partnership be of some real use, what profession or skill would you look for? And don't tell me about love. I'm talkin' logic and practicality here, not poetry. :p

When I was younger I made this list of who I was going to marry,

1st I would marry an extremely weathly man, then kill him and take all the money! :p

2nd I would marry an architect so that he could build me the house of my dreams!

3rd I would marry a chef, then he could cook good food for me for the rest of my life!

:rofl1:

Now I just want someone who will make a good husband and great father!

My mother always said, "you can love a rich man as good as you can a poor man"...I married for "musta been nuts" the first time and for love the second time around.

There is an old Chinese saying "When poverty comes in the door, love goes out the window".

I don't think I am going to outlive my husband, but if I did, I would only marry for "convenience", i.e., lotsa loot!!!

I think it would be awesome to be with a builder/general contractor. I always have all of these ideas about fixing up my place and it would be so fun if someone could do that, and actually enjoyed it. I am so far from handy it's ridiculous, so my grand ideas stay just that.

A doctor would be nice, too, so I could ask random questions all of the time, as I do to my doctor friends.

With this downturn, I've decided that the next guy should be in a field totally different from mine so we can be pretty financially stable. So maybe a doctor is a good idea. Finance guys and lawyers need not apply. :p

My husband can pretty much do all the handy work we want to do, and we could build a house, we just don't have the money!

A dentist would be nice though! I really need to go to the dentist, but I hate to pay the bill!

Oh, a group of my friend's and I had it all figure out once. There were five of us, all horse people. We figured one of us needed to marry a vet, on a farrier, one a doctor, one a chef, and one an architect. Personally, I wanted to trade the chef in for a pilot, so we could all go on cheap vacations, but I guess either would be nice.

See, it's all about team work!

I wouldn't mind marrying a chef or a doctor. I enjoy doing the handyman things, so repairs or additions to the house I find enjoyable. I'd love to learn how to cook far better than I currently can, and having a doctor would be nice for the income as well as free consultations :D

I would be willing to marry a prostitute and anyone who would marry me for the skills, occupation or money I have would fit the bill nicely.

Our teamwork plan was that one of us would marry a rich guy, the other would have an affair with him. The first would then divorce him and collect alimony - because of the affair. We would share the alimony $$.

Trouble is... Ever hear the saying "The Cobblers kids go barefoot?":D I am married to a Autobody Technician with his own shop, and half the time I drive dented up, rusty vehicles because he can never find time to get mine in the shop... His longstanding joke is that I am not a paying customer:mad:

The one exception was my Truck, and I better take care of it, cause I doubt he'll find time to do it again.... LOL

Hmmm.....Since I can do the carpentry work, the welding, the 'farming' (ok it's a hobby farm, but still), the electrical, the plumbing, the digging....no wonder it all seems to feel neglected.

Seems like life around here is just going from one priority to the next. A while back I was sorting through some papers from WAY back, and found a 'to-do' list from soon after we bought the place. If there were 25 items on it, I think the first 3-5 had been done, a few partially, and a whole bunch that no longer even applied because things had changed so much!

A rich guy who plays guitar in a rock band at night... and on weekends does dog shows.

*wistful sigh*
I just KNOW he's out there somewhere.

Hmm, I was asked out for a drink not so long ago by my small animal vet, he's not bad looking.. He has beautiful blue eyes, admittedly the beard makes him look a bit hamsterish, and I think he must be at least 6 years older than me.. But apart from already being taken, the real thing that put me off is.. I KNOW WHERE his hands have been.. Not sure I could cope with someone who has to squeeze anal glands on a daily basis.. Not that I am obsessive about cleanliness or anything.. ;)

My good friend is a farrier so I am covered as far as that goes, my horse vet never makes me pay the call out fee because I make sure his horses have water all the time.. The other half works in the building trade but originally trained in landscape gardening, his best friend is an electrician, one of his other friends is a roofer, and we also have plumber and tiler friends.

My neighbour is an accountant so she helps me with my forms, and my local mechanic lets me buy the parts and he puts them on for cash.. So that works out cheaper.

The local farmers let me buy meat from them for practically cost price..

So I guess all I am lacking is, a doctor and a dentist ;)
