There's a pit mix down at our park sometimes. Gosh he's annoying. The owners did a good thing and rescued him but he's aggressive. I'm scared to take my new pup down there when she's older. I guess, some are nice, and others not. It depends what the owners teach it.
Saying i heard yesterday- There are NO stupid german shepherds. Its the owners that make them stupid.
Shepherds are number 3 on the intelligent list behind the border collie and the poodle. So no they are not stupid, sometimes too smart. lol

Each to their own but I will never allow any pit bull near my kids, it just is not worth the chance to me. Any video can say anything to it is whether you choose to believe it or not. Labs are very people driven and I am sorry but I do not believe that they bite more than a pit bull. But if you want to save a breed you need to use words like that to do it. I don't think they should be banned but there should be some pretty serious regulations to go with the breed. You are right though all dogs should be leashed and controlled. I don't let Yuck near anyone. Who knows what he will do if provoked.
Sorry but I was attacked severly by a lab when i was a child so I don't trust labs so much.

Dogs are like people....they're individuals. I don't care what breed it is, how large or small it is or whether it's ears are cute and floppy or pointed. They're all individuals and the reality is there are those that are happy-go-lucky and those that are just plain nasty - with the majority falling somewhere inbetween.

The thing that will reduce attacks is owners being realistic. By this I mean a) they keep control over their dogs at all times and b) not taking their dog's behavior for granted. As an example, Jake is a wonderful dog who would stay in the yard 99% of the time. We found out he could crawl under our fence though. Being responsible, a new fence that he couldn't get under was in order and it was done.

Jake is nervous of strangers. This means when someone tries to pet him without asking, I intervein before Jake reacts in a potentially agressive manner. I don't let Jake off the leash unless we're completely alone and I have about 200' of visiblity in all directions....and it's not because I think Jake would attack someone minding their own business....it's because I'm not going to take that chance.

The fact of the matter is we as dog owners have to be responsible for our dogs AND the people who are in contact with our dogs. The sooner dog owners get that, the sooner attacks will decline.

Why be sorry, it is not a fault or anything. You have the right to your opinion and your feelings. I in no way belittle them or take them personlly. I don't blame you if that happened to me I think I would have the same feelings as you.

That makes the most sense and is so true. It is a fact and you have said it well.

Why not have every breed muzzled in public then? Statistically a Lab and Cocker spaniel, as it said in the video, are way more dangerous.

That's not fair that because the media decides to literally butcher a breed that they have to wear a muzzle.
I was talking to my dad about how statistically dangerous pit bulls are (he's afraid of them, I was trying to tell him that pit bulls can be good dogs) and he says that the more important thing is how much damage is done per bite. Sure, a lab could bite but there bite isn't as powerful. Also, the 7 year study could be based on all the dogs overall. You need to have a set number for each breed, if that makes sense.
Difficult to explain. That being said, I'm still on the pitbulls side. :D

I get what you're saying. Pit bulls whether ABPT owners like it or not have more jaw power than most dogs. They're VERY strong...and in that, they inflict more damage, the thing is, they attack rarely... but when they do, it's pretty much fatal--that's why they get so much attention.

That clip always kills a bit of me. I can't stand the torture we humans inflict upon animals, it is so disgraceful. You think being an "enlightened" group of animals we could do better than that. Mankind is sickening, we don't deserve this wonderful breed.

I have so much admiration for these people for what they have to go through for their dogs. Many of them are in canada and it is sick that they can ban a breed. What stops them from doing it to every large breed. My dog will NEVER wear a muzzle. You can not single out one breed. Soon so many breeds will be added that we will only be allowed to own fluffy little dogs that nip anyway. If you own any dog that can be looked at as dangeroues you need to pay attention to this stuff nad not let it happen in your town.

Its funny cuz I sat my grandma down the other day and showed her some stuff after she said they shuold be banned by her because one of the families down the street has one. I couldn't believie she would say that owning three shar peis so I showed her all the places that do not allow them, like apartments and how they were on lists of waiting to be banned and she quickly changed her tune. She loves my dobe too but thinks its odd hes so nice  Her sharpeis would tear some one apart quicker than any pit I've ever met. I've always wondered why they weren't fought more. I'm glad they weren't and I love them to death but I know they could do the same damage as a pit if not more. Her last rescue is a little nutty and had no hair when she got it and she waas all offended when someone asked if it was a pit.

this was great too http://www.dogster.com/pet_page.php?i=130060&j=t

I couldn't even watch part of the video,, I am in tears.. :( How can people be so cruel.. people who do this to a dog or any animal should be shot!! Dogs are here in this earth to our best friend.. I know my babies .. THEY DON'T CARE WHAT I LOOK LIKE, THEY DON'T CARE IF IN AM IN A BAD MOOD. THEY DON'T CARE IF I DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO THEM AT TIMES
THEY LOVE US NO MATTER WHAT.. WHEN I AM SAD THEY ARE THERE TO PUT THEIR HEAD UNDER MY ARM AND SAY THATS OK MOMMY WE LOVE YOU.. THEY ARE ALWAYS HAPPY TO SEE ME.. THEY ARE THERE WITH A COLD WET NOSE RUBBING AGAINST ME TO SAY HI WITH A TAIL GOING A HUNDERD MILES AN HOUR.. THEY ARE FORGIVING..How could any one be so mean and hatefull as to treat a dog that way.. I will never understand.. I believe that when they go to their Maker when their day has come to an end that they will pay for the cruelty for all eternity.. May they burn in He--!
