Liver Disease?

Hi guys, recently my dog havent been eating and he seems to be non active. He looked very tired and sleeps most of the time(more than usual). I took my dog to the vet yesterday to see what was going on. I told him my situation about my dog. Currently my dog seems to whine/screams when he jumps onto my bed and hasnt been eating and not to active. She took his temperature and found him with a fever and said that might be a reason why he isn't eating. My vet starts to feel around to see what is going on and she finds a sore near his back area(feeling it from the intestine area going to the back). Then she tells me that it could be an infection because something does not feel right. She recommended to take a x-ray and we did. She also said to do a blood sample testing to see what is also going on. We took the x-ray and found that he has a swollen or infected area near his bad. She said it was bigger than usual and maybe that is why he screams/whine when he jumps up onto my bed. She told me to take these anti-botics to see if it would reduce the swollen. She also gave us options if this method doesnt work and it might lead to surgery. She said the surgery is necessary because if the swollen thing gets bigger, it will burst the pus out and it is very toxicating for the dog. And today my mom recieves a call from the vet to hear bad news from the blood sample. THe vet has said that my dog has liver diesease, i try to get my mom to say what is wrong with it, but she said all the vet said was that my dog has liver problems and it is serious.
I'm here worried and do not have a clue in what to do with my dog. A little description of my dog: hes a 3 year old siberian husky and a bit over weight. Tomorrow I am going ot take him to a specialist to do a ultra sound and after that to see what options we have. We have no clue what might cuase this. Im not sure if this will play in affect, but about last week my dog got to one of my scorpion display which he did eat one of them. I dont know what kind they were because it was a gift that i never paid attention to but i ignore it because i didnt think it would do any harm because it was 10+ years old.
Now I'm asking anyone with similar problems or has encounter liver problems with their dog and what they did or should do? Any suggestions will help. I will keep everyone on this forum posted. Thank you all.

Ahhh, you must be going through hell right now :( We are all here to give you moral support and good vibes :)

Your vet should probably know more once test results come back...I'd ask as many questions as you can. Be sure to let them know about the scorpion incident, I don't know how long that poision lasts inside them but Kidneys would definately be affected. It could also be something that is genetic, who knows. Sorry you are having to go through this :(

Ok back for the update. Today Chong CHong(thats my dog's name) went to the specialist to do a ultra sound and a more define blood test to see what that thing is, AFter dropping him off and wiating for about 4 hours, i was able to pick him up and consult with the doctor. But before that, we had to pay a massive bill. i got to say, going to a specialist almost cost me a arm and a leg. Doctor told us that from the ultra sound, he found that the bump was possibly cancer or an infection. Im really keeping my finger cross that it is an infection because we can treat it with antibotics, but if its cancer or some type of thing that we need to take out, it is going to involve with major surgery because it is in a tough spot to reach. I was thinking to myself, when he is going to inform us about the liver. I asked him and he told me that the liver is fine. I told him teh result from the blood sample said it was something wrong with it and he told me that it might have some problems but not major and told me how the liver works(liek a filter and some bad stuff might got caught in it). WEll I felt somewhat relieve about the liver, but now we have to deal with the "mass"(thats what he called it). NOw we have to wait another day to see what the result is. I want to thank you all for your support and please help me cross your fingers that its just an infection and we're able to treat it with anti-botics. Thank you all, and ofcourse i'll keep you guys updated.

hey guys, sadly i was informed with some bad news. Chong Chong's vet called me today saying that he has cancer. They do not know what kind of cancer he has. I asked the vet what it was and the next step. He said next step is to get him on steriods to slow the cancer down and we probably have to do the surgery to get it out and to see if it has spread to somewhere else. I do not know what to do guys, please help me. DOes anyone know any other test we need to do, we had already spent quite a bit jsut finding this out, so does anyone know any cheaper alternative(s)? Anyone know what lies ahead on the battle against cancer? what other steps are there? and the following after that?? thank you all for your support.

I am soooo sorry :( ((((HUGS))) Now's the time to really sit down with your family and figure out how much money you are willing to put into it, the chances of successfully removing all of it as well as the dog's quality of life right now. There have got to be a few more test to see if it has spread to any other areas before they actually go in. I would do as much research as possible, just google "canine cancer." There may even be forums for cancer support for animals, who knows.

I've never personally experienced a dog with cancer but I'll definately be pulling, praying and hoping for you guys! :(

Hey everybody, news are not looking too good. Chong chong suffered a seizure this morning and that almost made my heart stop, i was terrified. That seizure last for about 1 minute. My brother called the vet asking our vet what had happened and she told us that it was bad news. THe cancer cell must of spread and probably was attacking the brain or an organ. I do not know what to do, if we do head to surgery route, it'll probably cost us alot more because the cancer is spreading quickly and i would imagine the survive rate would be slim. She also said, Or we put him to sleep. I cant believe cancer will come to a 3 year old dog, i still find that fairly young. Are there any opinions you guys say you would had done(in hope that your loves ones will never suffer with cancer)?? DOes anyone know how long he will live. He looked fine after the seizure except he was a bit in shock and was a bit dizzy and off balance but after a few minutes he was walking fine and he even went to go drink water and went to the backyard to poop. Well any suggestions will help, and i will keep you guys updated. Thank you all for your support and please pray with me for chong chong.

I am so terribly sorry for you and Chong Chong. This is seriously sad news indeed. If it started in one place and has now spread to his brain, I honestly don't see very much hope....at least from what I'm getting from your post. What does the vet say now? I can only tell you what I'd be inclined to do. Only you and your family can know what is right for your dog. If my dog had a disease which was making him suffer, if the prognosis was poor, if treatment options were weak and not likely to be very successful, if his quality of life was becoming painful and unhappy, I would have no other choice but to put the animal down. It's the hardest dam thing to do. I've been through it a number of times.

I guess the bottom line is to find out if the cancer has metastasized or would it be likely to get it all with surgery, how much pain or suffering (mentally and physically) is the dog in, does he have some time where he can enjoy life still for a while....would the treatment not be worth the dog's suffering and longer term prognosis. In other words, would treatment be likely to make him live comfortably and significantly longer and would the treatment not be too miserable. And of course, you have to consider if the cost would buy him enough healthy time to make it worth it. It would be very expensive.

I hate to be negative, but it doesn't sound good dear. I know one thing. If you do have to make that decision, we'll all be here for you to comfort and console you. It's a very hard time. ((((((Hugs))))))

hey guys, my dog looks like he is physically doing pretty well, but he has at least 7-8 seizures today, just today for about 1 per an hour. I'm very sad he has to go through this, does anyone know if he is suffering with seizure??? does it hurt?? he seem hurt and scared when the seizure is done, but i see he is so much active then before. His appetite seem to be a bit better, he'll eat the good stuff. Thank you for all your prayer and support, it means alot to me. I will let you know what we had decided and hopefully it is the best for chong chong.

My Lab had seizures and no, I don't believe they hurt. When they come out of the seizure, it is called the post ictal stage and they seem very disoriented and sometimes restless for a little bit, then extremely tired. When in a convulsion (seizure) every muscle in the body is in contraction and it's exhausting.

I feel so sad for you to be going through this. It's very upsetting to see. It looks like the cancer is serious.

I'm keeping you both in my thoughts at this hard time.

I'm so sorry you are having to go through this--and I hope that your dog will not suffer. I would ask the vet about meds to control the seizures--depending on what else you decide to do or not do. Seizures can take their toll, especially if they are happening alot. You might ask yourself, would you want to experience a seizure every hour? That is alot-and will probably increase. I hope you can find some answers or make decisions that will keep Chong Chong comfortable.

Hey guys thanks again for your thoughts and support. We took chong chong to the vet last night to see what can the vet say about it. It was late night around 1 in the morning so you can imagine the staff at the vet. THe vet said that it might be the cancer cell attacking the brain or the "mass"(i think thats the word they use) behind his spine is causing the fluid that runs along the spine to change and causing the seizure. That sound reasonable. Im not that knowledgable about canine cancer, but having a cancer cell attacking the brain liek every hour sound unlikely. THe vet gave us these medicine to stick it up his poophole to stop a seizure, but that cost way to much to sotp all of it(cost about 50 bucks a pop-sadly, we only got one because those late night visit cost alot). But that sad, chong chong seems to have a sleepless day/night. I think he is too worried that if he falls asleep he will get the seizure. Sadly, chong chong has been experiencing about 12 seizure since last morning. I can tell chong chong is really tired because when he walks, he doesnt really pick up his hind legs and he seem weak but somewhat active, he walks around the house and the backyard. Other than the fact of him going through seizure, and him being restless and weak, im sort of happy to see him up and going....but who knows how long that will last. Thank you all again and i will keep you all updated on chong chong.
