I'll give you my address so you can send me Lizmo's. :D

They're gorgeous! Do you sew them by hand or with a machine?

That is beautiful work. And I'm glad this is the kind of place where it's ok to share it with us. I want to be able to see it. Bkue is entitled to his opinion, but most here disagree, I think. I love those leads with the braided ends,

Dekka, hahaha that is a perfect description of his expression in that pic! Stinkin stuck-up dog :p

Nolu, they're done by machine ;) I'd like to give hand stitching a shot but dont have the tools right now to do it properly.

Lizmo, best make sure you type your adress out carefully so Molu's doesnt end up on the package by mistake ;) hehehe

Thnaks all for the nice comments again :)

Hey Ren, when my leads arrive, what should I do to break them in quickly? Especially the service dog lead. I wanna show it off ASAP! :D

Grace, the best way to break in a new leash is just to USE it LOL Actually anytime I get a new leather leash I'll just spend some time watching tv and play with it in my hands the whole time (wrapping it around my hands, twisting and bending it, etc). If you want you could put some mink oil on it too which helps soften things. The service dog lead is actually broken in a bit already (just from me working with it and handling it) it's the traffic leads that need more attention since they are double-ply and shorter. Zaphod's traffic lead will especially need some attention since it is so wide.

service leads

I had a GSD as a service dog several years ago and had a special harness made for him. Your leads look beautiful and very functional. Mine also had a handle so I could balance sewn on his collar. I love the woven look in your leads.

OC, they look great. When you're ready to try hand stitching, let me know, I'll walk you through it. (Or if it happens to time with the race near us, I can show you some if time allows!)

Of course, being Dekka's mom's hubby, I don't hear prices. But as far as her charging enough to make a profit, these leads would never sell if you were to charge what it takes to make them, the time factor is too high, on top of materials to boot. I've done lots of leather work before, OC has been quizzing me on some aspects of it. I'll hazard a guess of at least two hours a piece, if you were to figure in actual costs per hour for that, with materials, $100 a leash might break even.

As simple as it looks, it's time consuming to do leather work. Long strips (like used in leashes) are also expensive, because they have to come out of certain areas of the hide, making the rest of it limited in what it can be used for.

Keep up the good work, you'll just keep getting better and better!
