Yes, it was a pass out cold circumstance. I made a little area next to her for the delivery. The first came at 1:35am, the next @ 2:35 am, the next @3:01am, and the fourth @ 4:05 am. So I take pics, weigh it, help clean it off, in the meantime she is still obsessivly compulsivly licking the others to death!I lay next to her, she started to become real peaceful, and fell asleep, so I gues my eyelids became real heavy and I fell asleep too! Last I looked at the clock it was 5:03am! I heard a puppy squeaking at 7:35, so I opened my eyes not even realizing I had been asleep, and sat up, and started counting them.....next thing I know, I see 6. So I yell @ hubby, he comes in and looks, says"Ohhhhhhhhh-AAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhh" and we decided Dix has got to go potty, it took some coaxing, but he got her outside, and I decided to change the soaked bedding. Im picking up puppies 2 at a time, and Im like"2,4,6,...........8!!!!!" 8 puppies! She had 4 while I passed out.My head wasnt 2 feet from her, and I did not hear a thing!
The delivery went very smooth for the 4 I saw. She knew exactly what to do after the first. The first, she started pushing, but when we came near, she'd stop, so we went into the other room where we could see her, and I saw her push a few times, tshe was sat up doing it, and then I saw her look for us, very worried looking, and I saw a sac on her back legs. So I came in,slowly pet her and console her, she turned to it and I started to tear the bag and she took over.
She was cleaning that poor pup and roling it around like a wrestler, she was sooooo obnoxious I had to get on her a few times, after the 3rd though she was like...........lick-lick-and done. After the struggle to push that first one out, the rest just seemed to fall out when they would come. No more panting or shaking, shed just sit up, and look down!
The stage 2 labor was so violent. I was shocked. She started NOTHING until 11:30. I took her potty and it seems as though that is what brought it on. She came in trembeling violently, panting profusely(sp?) and vocally crying and squalling. This lasted until the first pup. At 12"30 I called the vet, he told me to give it one more hour, and sure enough, it came!
She has handled the babies very well, alittle clumbsy but I guess grace will come! She is being a very good mom. She has licked one little babies cord alittle short, and it keeps slightly bleeding, but seems to have stopped now.We have a vet appt at 2:45pm.
My son took the camera to the store for development just now, it is 11:38, I told him 1 hour, and will post pics when I get it back.
Black and white were NOT the dominant genes folks-I thought red was not dominant! Wow, we got alittle bit of everything here, red, blk/white, a bronz color and chocolates! Absolutly gorgeous!
