i watch this show alll the time , and if you dont watch the show and only go by the clips kate comes off as a bitch , but she really is not like that , it seems to me from watching it, bossy and demanding , a little neurotic maybe , but defiantly not mean or cold hearted.
I've watched all the shows. I've read all about the family. I've read interviews. I've read various family member's and friends' blogs.

She still comes across as bitchy. If anything, worse.

I think a lot of people unknowingly think littermates are a good idea. It's unfortunate, however, that it seems no one tried to educate them that it isn't.

Hopefully the dogs do well, though

I watch the show all the time....I think Kate is pretty uptight and I think she doesn't treat Jon very nice.

I just hope she tolerates the puppies better than Jon

Anyways I feel they needed to wait until the little kids were at least Maddie and Karas age.

I just hope they know what they are doing (If I recall didn't they say they haven't owned dogs before...neither Jon or Kate)

I wish them the best of luck but I still feel like this could end badly with all the little kids

First time dog owners should have done more research and it probably would have been best not to get littermates.

I have 2 young dogs who aren't littermates and they are a handful

the dogs suprised me , but i really dont think they will go anywhere , and i think they will be happy heathly well adjusted dogs. but maybe its the rose colored glasses. but i think they will get the training needed for the family and the dogs.
I agree. I think being in the spot light like these dogs are going to be, they will get proper training.

I mean, come on, they aren't going to let the dogs bite this kids on TV or growl at new people.

As for Kate, I think she is pretty mean to Jon sometimes, but she's got 8 little children. Also, she probably doesn't have all the rights to edit the show since they just *might* need to money with that many kids. So the editors most likely show what they think will get the most ratings even if it isn't showing who they really are. JMO of course ;)

Also, I know I posted this in the other thread, but she had the choice too abort some of the fetuses. But instead I think she did the right thing and had all the babies. Speaks highly of her IMO.

I didnt want to comment until I watched the show... I had DVR'd it and just got around to watching this afternoon.

I expected the absolute worst going in.... I was pleasantly surprised.

1. They went to pick out the dogs that would best suit their family... it seems they put a lot of thought into what dogs to get... Kate wanted small dogs but worried about all the children.

2. Kate and Jon made the decision of which puppies they would get, they are the adults and didnt let the kids make this decision... good job, they know what is best.

3. The children handled the dogs very well.. no grabbing, pulling, dropping, etc.

4. Kate took all the information she could from the breeder... she asked every possible question and really listened.

5. They are teaching the kids to help... the older ones have the dogs sit, feed the dogs, etc.

6. They have had the dogs at least 6 weeks as far as that episode says, so they did not dump them right away as some expected.

7. They say they LOVE the dogs.

8. Im sure if there was a camera in each persons house here when they were raising a puppy they got mad when the dog had an accident too... she did NOT hit or yell at the dog... she jokingly said they were going back.... I said it too when Armani was a puppy, it was just that a joke.

That being said... these dogs need training, the fact that they are biting the kids... even if it is nipping is not good and needs to be rectified NOW... I am sure they will get them the training they need.

I hope everything goes good with these dogs... if there is an allergy problem... the breeder has said he will take them back and hopefully he does. Im sure it will be a hard decision for them but if the dog makes their child ill, I wouldnt expect them to keep it... I doubt they will dump them at a shelter.

I agree completley. GSD are not dogs to mess with if thet are not trained. But I also don't agree that they didn't have any supplies ready for 2 puppies. And if I'm not mistaken... you are not suppose to get 2 or more puppies at the exact time [even more so if they ar from the same liter] They should have waited to see if they can even handle 1 GSD, let alone 2. Hope all goes well with the pups though... does anyone know as a FACT that they have already gotten rid of them??? It would break those little girls hearts if they did take them away... hope not. :)

I have no problem at all with them getting the dogs but they need to be responsible. I don't believe in getting rid of the family members when they get on your nerves or pee on the carpet.:) I sure do hope they do the right thing and keep the dogs all children should have a pet whatever it may be.

Why can't you get puppies from the same litter? I have three males from the same litter and I have a female and male three weeks apart in age. When the males were puppies we did have a little sibling rivalry going on but once they found their place we have not had any issues with them. Is there another reason why?

Have to agree with you goldie, but maybe it partly depends on the breed. I know a lot of sighthound breeders will send a sibling home with you if you only buy one puppy as a "grow out" loaner for a few months.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the impression I got about having two puppies is that they tend to team up on not listening, and it takes a lot of intense one on one training to make sure they both get what they need.

That is what I was thinking just more work with two or more puppies.:p luckily I was home full time with the three males and I did not have eight kids to deal with.:rofl1:
It sure is fun though to have a few puppies running around and of course they have a playmate.

I wasn't sure what to think when I heard Jon and Kate were getting dogs. I only watch the show on occassion, and chose not to watch this episode because I figured it might irritate me. It was my mom, who never misses an episode, that told me that they bought the dogs from a breeder. I kind of wish they would have adopted an adult dog instead however. In my personal opinion for two people that have never owned dogs, and have 8 children, an adult dog from a shelter who preferably has had some training already, would have suited them better than two young puppies. But that's just my opinion. I also would have preffered it if they had adopted because it might get more of the public interested in adopting rather than buying when they choose to get a dog.

This is how I felt. I think it could have gone ALOT worse, IMO. They seemed have most everything the pups need. Bowls, Xpen, food, and Kate took alot of notes from the breeder on what to do.

Yeah, 'cause that's great parenting. Really don't understand why a woman who won't let anyone wear their shoes in the house and likes to spend 4 hours cleaning fridge shelves thought two puppies was a good idea.
I don't know how much I agree with the whole shoes and cleaning statement. I'm obsessive about cleaning, and everybody that comes in my house has to take their shoes off before walking on the carpet...all my furniture gets moved once a month to clean under it (including fridge and oven) but I also have 3 big dogs in my house. I don't mind the dog hair and all of that, but it does have to be cleaned up frequently.

I guess you can be a neat freak and love animals at the same time.

Oh they look like 2 happy puppers!

I wouldn't doubt if they don't have personal trainers for those dogs - if they have cash and 8 kids I can't see them doing it themselves.

So fingers crossed they're getting all the training they need :)

They look well enough to me.

Yeah, my mom is the same way. No shoes on the carpet, always wants to move the furniture, clean stuff. :rofl1: And she let us have 4 big dogs.

I would totally agree with that statement (it describes me!) I love to dust/vacuum/scrub carpets/move furniture, and I have Lucy. I've sucked it up, and accepted that there is going to be fur all over the carpet/couch during the week, and I spend an extra hour deep cleaning on Saturdays when I have time to take care of it.

But Kate already doesn't have time for her kids, since she's cleaning so much...she talked in one episode about how she sweeps 6+ times a day, to get rid of all the crumbs. (I hope she doesn't try to get rid of german shepherd hair every time a piece hits the ground, or she'll be eternally sweeping!) She screams (no exaggeration) when someone accidentally forgets to take off their shoes. The thought of bringing in animals who are unable to take off muddy shoes when they come in the house is strange to me, if you are that uptight.

She's going to either need to relax her cleanliness standards a little, or spend more time cleaning (my guess is the latter). In a normal house, no problem. The problem is, she lacks time. (Or claims to--I still maintain she has a housekeeper and nanny and cook, based on research I've done)

I think getting two might have been a bit much, but if they are willing to do the work............go for it! LOL

I agree. Though I am far from a neat freak, I do like things tidy :)

To say otherwise would be assuming all the people here with dogs (or multiple dogs) in the house live in filthy surroundings or something close, lol

There have been many times where it's taken me a few hours to properly clean the fridge. In a house with multiple children (especially more than 3), unless you've lived it, you just don't understand the traffic and use/abuse on everything from the floors to the light switches. The amount of dust and dirt tracked in throughout a day, and the accidents..........little spills that are no big deal when it's ONE but multiply that by X for a day and it's WORK! LOL

I also don't find Kate to be a "bitch" I have only watched a few shows, but I find her precise, outspoken, and knowing exactly what she wants and not settling for less. What's wrong with that? The episode where they installed the mini blinds is one that I watched. She gave clear instructions, made sure they were understood, and they still managed to mess it up. She made them redo it. I agreed with her 100% and I would have been the same way :D

You were posting as I was, LOL

I can agree with this statement too. Before I had kids, my standard of "clean" was far different than it is now. Things I let slide or wait for later NOW........I never would have before.

You must come to a point and choose what's most important in some cases.

The main reason people give for "dont get two puppies" is twice the work and twice the attention. I honestly think one would have been a bad idea, because they would have 8 kids trying to play with ONE dog. But I cant wait to see how it goes!
