Back to the topic - How are mom and pups doing now? How many, and are they all doing well?

I'd love to see pictures too please..

Anyone who began to allow their bitch to give birth on their sofa must have no clue about the amount of fluids, blood and otherwise, that come along naturally with births.

Big surprise there, huh?

LOL, yes it can get messy, but she is keeping everything very clean. I suppose my favorite blanket will have some odd green stains that will never wash out, but it's a green blanket, anyway.

I thought she was done at seven pups, but she was just resting. We're up to eleven pups now.
Be patient for the pics, I have slow dialup connection and it takes for frigging ever to upload anything.

I completely shocked by that first pic of her with the puppy. Looks like the poor thing is falling into the cracks. That is extremely dangerous, and I am appalled that you would allow her to give birth on a couch. The safety of those puppies....

:(

One more pic for the day. And I need a nap before going out for dinner tonight. Boyfriend is taking me to a favorite Japanese restaurant. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone.

Um wait... she just delivered and you are leaving? Do you have a sitter while you two are out? I am sure you know how critical the first 24 hours are.

Dekka, why bother? Obviously she is an irresponsible person. One or more of those poor pups will die, whether it be because they were smothered by their mother, smothered inbetween couch cushions..who knows. I am really too shocked to even believe a rescue would give her a pregnant dog. It is probably her dog, she bred herself.

The first week is very important, please don't leave them unsupervised. A day and two days after I lost two puppies from them getting chilled!! I tried my best to be with them 24/7, but I had school and work and no one else would help out with the puppies...please watch them very carefully this first week especially!!

Dogs have been giving birth since the beginning of time....Good lord - it may not be how YOU would do it, but at least she is warm and safe and fed.

Dogs give birth in ditches and do ok... and in barns, and sheds, and fields... I doubt being on the sofa is really going to do much damage.

And I'd say it's a **** sight better than being in a shelter kennel.

She could have a state of the art birthing room set up, 6 nurses on stand by and a fully trained canine midwife and people would still find fault - I am CERTAIN of that.

There is only too much dog-related PC crap that this world can take.

Women give birth to humans in worse conditions than that.

We may not all agree with Bigdogs philosophies or attitudes, and I am by no means sticking up for her, because she is more than capable, and I am SURE there'll be things we disagree on wholeheartedly, but crikey.

Yes, we are all concerned for the puppies welfare, I love ANY dogs and want them to be safe.......

But good lord.....

Yes women and dogs do. But its not ideal. I for one would be dead (and likely Darien too) if it wasn't for medical intervention.

This is assuming she is not having a sitter (maybe she is.. she is napping so I don't know)

If it was an accident or a lay person I would understand a bit more. BUT this person took this bitch on KNOWING she was pregnant and expecting to have her whelp with her. This person is an acknowledged breeder. It is these facts that make this reprehensible. If you have kennel staff and a clean area a kennel would be preferable.

Crap happens. We had a whelping box ready but Riley started to give birth in Darien's bed. (ew talk about mess!) But I didn't go out for dinner and leave a mom and pups alone (and it was NOT Riley's first litter)

Why take on the responsibility only to shirk it? *shrugs. Why not let someone who is willing to do what is necessary.

So which of you has tracked down her address, called her neighbours and interogated her family to find out who is dog sitting? Or where the restaurant is? Maybe we should all take time off to personally take a puppy each and monitor it's progress.

Dog breeding... birth of ANY creature, large or small is not an exact science.

My hamster gave birth once.... Should I have not gone into school the next day?

Now people are throwing stones and making wild assumptions.... Now apparently this is her dog and she planned it all along! Maybe next we'll find out she's the bogey monster and EATS puppies.... Well... I think it, so it must be true, right.

When people lie, they trip and fall - it all comes out in the end without ANYONE having to squeeze it out.

And time will tell.

I am pretty sure bigdog will have it covered... and if she doesn't - then we have every right in the world to be unhappy, depending on your beliefs over newborns.

If it was me, I'd be sat in with them - because I'd want to watch them squirm about... but I know plenty of people who wouldn't... And would ensure they are safe for the oooooh.. hour? it takes to have a meal.

This is a rescue dog (according to her)

Did you not read my post as usual Dizzy? :D I ASKED her (you did she the question mark didnt' you?) I can go back an highlight it for you... if she had a sitter.

In my next post I raised my concerns if she didn't have one. But I pointed out that she said she was having a nap so might not answer right away.

If you want to pick apart my posts please read them first. It makes things much clearer.

No one is making wild assumptions. We are going by what she has TOLD us on this forum.

I am lol.

But that is only because its not such a far stretched idea. From what she has posted, I just can't believe anyone would give her a pregnant dog. She says she has whelping experience, but by the looks of it..she doesn't. Did you see the pic of the puppy falling into the crack? Yeah, THAT looks safe!
