What a terrible experience for Victor and you.
But he did eat some breakfast
That is always a goog sign that things will be OK.
Duke and Freckles told me for you to tell Victor to just rest, take it easy, and enjoy all the pampering he can get.

The meds it took to bring him out of it could be part of what's making him slow and tentative today, Smkie, plus that's a lot of toxin to move out of one dog's body, especially one that doesn't have any fat stores to absorb and neutralize them. Try to get him to drink plenty of water to flush himself out :)

I do believe the ear stroke did help bring him out of shock. YOu start at the inside of the ear and in quick strokes but not hard you pull to the outside of the ear. I will see if i can find a video on utube of it. HE was almost unresponsive like he was drunk and getting ready to pass out when i started and it was hard to do it and drive at the same time but i did. AFter about 20 miles his color pinked a bit..not a lot but it was slow and steady. By the time we got back he was not normal color but much better. THat must be when the venom was circulated.

He felt better today after he got out and looped around ok. More himself. My Mom's dog got stung last night in the kitchen. THen Mom found another wasp inside of the book she was studying, right under the ridge of the paper. You sure don't expect them inside.

Thanks LAbDad Duke and Freckles. THat means alot.
THanks Renee I will try to get him to drink more water.

I'm so glad he seems to be feeling better. I'm sure he knows how well he's being taken care of, too.

Did Mary and Pepper seem to notice anything going on with Victor during the whole ordeal?

Mary said "Your only suppose to lose it over me...here i am what is wrong what is wrong?"She practically sat on Victor. I had to push her out of the way.

Pepper got out of the way and stayed out of the way which was intuitive of her.

WE just finished our walk around the block. FIrst Victor...off leash..nice pace, little hesitant on the sit..but that's him. WE are working on that. WE get to the field and his eyes lit up and his ears come forward..he has that bottom tooth grin where one cheeks is caught behind the lower canine. "May I please?" I shook my head no. He gave it one extra perky look and i shook my head no again. He came to heel and we walked passed it. WAs sad. I was looking at the clover on the way..no bees no bees uhoh a bee. That has always been his reward for a training session. A couple times around the field. . THe only reward i have found that works for an unfood motivated dog.

Took Pepper and she did her first 2/3 around the block off leash..at heel. Her sits do not come a second or two after you say them, she sits tidy and pretty and classy. I only put the leash back on her for the last third to make it apart of the training. Next time we will do this in the middle. SHe got to run around the field this morning when the dew was still wet. GUess i will check that for Victor too. Do bees come to dewy clover or do they wait for the warm? I can certainly get out earlier.

*not reading the whole thread*

That must have been really scary Smkie!!!

Although it sucks that it happened, I'm glad you were able to find out what it was, and that it was something like bees and not something worse or lifelong.

:( :(

I have no idea how much change this will have on our lifestyle. Running is a huge part of it for Victor. I am hopping that somewhere around dawn is good. I will check it out because a VIccy eats up ground with poetry. It is too much of a bliss for him to live without a day of it.

I have two benedryl in my billfold from now on. THe shock was the scary part of this. NEver again I pray i ever have to see him like that. WE are not going to take any chances. IF I can't find a bee free period short of the dark we will wait til frost.

I took both Victor and Pepper to petco tonight to pick up dog food. THeir tails wagging going in. I let them smell all the good stuff then i have VIctor hold PEpper's leash while i load the cart. On our way out there was a woman that made Pepper earn her Doctor title. SHe effervessed (sp?) completely out of character. I have never seen her like a woman so much. VIctor took Pepper's leash over and dropped it at the lady's feet. I think he was trying to give her away. Pepper's tongue was going a mile a minute and i was trying so hard to get her attention and control herself. SHe is NOT suppose to do this. SHe is suppose to sit and shake instead. THe lady was great and let me get her contained. THe lady bent over to shake and yes she shaked but that tongue came out and flipflopped all over the place.:D NIce lady! WOnder if someone in Pepper's past was like her.

VIctor is changed from his experience. IT's like our nonverbal communication went up a few notches, A stronger vibe.

Our puppehs were sent here to try us sometimes.

But they make you realise what's inside sometimes I feel. It's often a good experience having a scare.

In a silver lining kind of way.

IT changes you to be sure. Mom commented that VIctor doesn't take his eyes off of me. Betty has said the same thing. We are a team he and I...i think my stock just went up a little in his eyes is all and he is showing his appriciation with some very nice behavior. HE likes to tease me and there is none of that today.

YAY no bees at sundown. I Figured that would be the way it is. So we had a lovely field run and a nice training session. Pepper too! Mary too! (she doesn't have to do anything but you ought to see her gallopy gallopy from the field to the house you have to scurry to catch up with her. IF she didnt' get to do what the others do it would break her heart. I hold the hulu hoop on the ground now and she wags herself through to get her treat. SHe use to sail through at arm's height. SHe's so happy. Does me a world of good to see her like that. YOu could just wrap me up in a basket and send me to teh funny farm if i lose my Viccy especially this young. WE can run at sunset no probalum at all.

I will always feel the loss of Bronki at 7. I don't know how people do it that have short life span dogs. ALl this work to get Victor where he is...now he is mature and everything i could ever dream of on 4 lovely legs.

smkie, it is scaring to see hubby have the reaction, especially since he was never allergic when younger, he was 40 when he had his first reaction, he was so swollen I thought he had accidently put on my son's pants to go to the ER, I wasn't home when it happened, I met him at the hospital. By the time we left the pants fit again. Weird.
I'm glad your going to get the EPI pen, don't let the vet discourage you, and keep those benedryl handy.
I'm also happy you found that sunset is a great time to go out for a run. I'm glad he's ok. Give him a day or two and he'll be back to normal.

What a terrible ordeal. There are so many different kinds of bees. Some in hives, solitary ones, etc. I'm pretty sure I read that it takes time for the bees to warm up in the morning before they get busy. The solitary ones sleep in flowers and plants until the sun warms them up.

Hope you never have to go through anything like this again. Glad it was only an extreme scare and not a tragedy.
