Mine was an extreme reaction, and I remember thinking I should probably go to the University Health Clinic, but I didn't. I was not having anything like labored breathing, just a grotesque amount of swelling.

Well after that day, it occured to me it could have been an allergic reaction, and I did think about whether I could have trouble if a bee stung me. It wasn't a gripping fear, though......it's easier when you're thinking about yourself than about your pets who can't communicate so well what's happening.

I've been out of college for 26 years. I'm sure I've been stung since then with no ill effects. I did get a reaction to a caterpillar bite that required medical attention, but it was not life threatening. Just threatened my vanity when an ugly rash started moving up my face.

I'm hoping that time will ease your fears, but I do know it's not easy. Bees are attracted to certain plants, aren't they? Maybe after a few days when you're ready to venture out again, you could find out what plants attract bees and try to be in areas that don't have certain types of vegetation.

I don't know, but I do know that none of us have been stung very often at all, so I guess they generally sting if they feel threatened.

He had labored breath, altered concien...geez mental state..and his pink parts were whiter then his white parts. I can't go back there with him until the clover is mowed. I just couldn't do this again. IT"s mostly clover in one section but no way to avoid it.

wow, poor Victor, I'm hoping it does only come in threes for him. I know you were scared to death, my husband is allergic to bees and it never gets easier to see his reaction. Keep an eppy pen and the benedryll handy and unfortunately as you said you'll have to avoid the valley until after the clover is gone.

Yes. ALL 5 of Victor's years..all seasons. ANd with Mary and Bronki before that.

His muzzle looks better and his lips look "heavy" but not near as bad. HE is pretty zonked out but he would have been that way after a run like this in the first place. OTher dogs run about..Pepper turboizes but she stops to smell and dig and explore.Sawyer, Virgo, and Higgs all three are done long before Victor is. ..Victor runs and runs and runs..big loopy circles that eat up acres. He loves it there because he can do that even more so than in the woods. JUst tell me the first white business had everyrthing to do with the bees and not the running.
THe valley is about 20 acres square it might be twice that for all i know in undulating slopes. IT has wide long stretchs of flat land. HE loves it there.

Poor, poor Victor. :( I hope he feels all better very, very soon.

I would have freaked out if something like that had happened to my dog. Sounds like you did everything right -- and even managed to keep it together until he was okay!

What a crappy end to a wonderful day. I hope he can enjoy his field again -- it sounds lovely.

I keep it together during the crisis. I have had loads of practice of not losing it when all hell is breaking loose. IT is afterwards i implode which i am doing a mighty fine job of right now. Needless to say no artwork got done today..and that is a bad thing with the auction coming up. IT is not normal for a person to love a dog this much. I felt hollow when he was so cold. His mouth felt like a fridgerator..his body was cold as death. I never want to feel that again ever never. VIctor is always warm. PEople pet him and ask me if he has a fever because he puts out heat like a furnace. I am just laying on the sofa with him now because apparently I am worthless for anything else.

Poor boy. I can't imagine. :(

Take care of yourself, too. He's "over" it -- and he adores you, he wouldn't want you to be sad.

I keep telling myself that. THank you all for being there with me through this horrid day. IT started out so incredibly beautiful. Even as i sat on the picnic bench i thought what an absolute stunning day. I have thought long and hard about what was the difference between two days ago and today. I think all that clover was not fully in bloom..it rained two days of clear bonny days must have brought it into bloom. I remember looking down at the bees by the table thinking last year i was freaked that i wasn't seeing any. look at how many bees there are now. Not but a few minutes later i saw Victor hop and thought he got stung..he ran over to the mud and was bouncing around in it like nothing had happened so i dismissed it. Figured i would get it out of him when we got to the car which i did. HE was mud up to his elbows so i never would have found it in field. IT seems so stupid now. To think about those bees and not put it together. Wrong Place WRong time 2020 hind sight.
Ironic i almost lost him in his most favorite of all places.

I found an envelope in the mail that has his and my id badge for PFL. this afternoon. Somehow they managed to take a pic of me that isn't embarrassing..and makes me look "nornal". I don't know if they photoshopped it or not. The scars just do not show. And VIctor's is just stunning. His ears are perked and he looks like he would just like to meet you yes. I will try to get a pic of his. It would have been a huge loss not just to me. I am going to call the vet and ask for an epi pen perscription. Even if he thinks it isn't necessary i want one. I will carry benedryl in my billfold from now on too.

Maybe that field will have to be a seasonal romp now.

We can become allergic to things that we've never been before. Maybe he just developed this allergy....or was it the first time he's been stung?

Gosh, it sounds scary.

Well, at least you do it the right way and don't panic during the crisis. It's very good that you can keep your wits about you during a crisis. I'm always scared that I would not. I haven't ever been faced with a real crisis, I don't think, and the closest I've come I've not faced alone. I always hope I would be able to be strong during the emergency.

You've got to let go sometime, so after it's all over and all is okay is the time to do it!

HE's been stung. In my yard, in mom's yard. Even at Grammy's a bumble bee got him. Never has he had anything like this. YOu would see a welt on him (since he has no undercoat they really show up) and he would act like it wasn't even there. PEpper ran half of much of everywhere he ran. Half way home from the vet's i thought...i didn't even look at PEpper and Mary. Needless to say i couldn't get home fast enough.

mjb don't worry. YOu will do anything and everything you can to keep your loved one alive. AFtewards you will feel like broken glass...it will always come afterwards but not during. Driving is a beech.

It is a very subdued Victor who doesn't want to go outside this morning. He stood in the doorway and had to be encouraged to step out. He is aslo very clingy. SAd.

I'm glad Vic is feeling better. Kona got bit twice. The first time the vet gave her 2 shots and I had her on Benedryl for 24 hours. Four days later the same thing happened so I gave her the Benedryl and it worked. Oh how they can scare us.

DId Kona go into shock? Not knowing why...no swelling...it was the not knowing why my dog is in shock and trying to bring him out of it that scared me to pieces. ONce i found out it was a bee stings..and he was pink again then my panic level went down.

His lips still feel a bit heavy but all the hives on his back, legs, belly chest and head are gone.

Cortizone or the histimines i don't know which made him smell very strange.
HE is deffinatly subdued. But he did eat some breakfast. Since he missed two meals that was good to see. GUess we will take a slow walk this morning.
