In Memoriam

Recently, this week, UK removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it "offended" the Moslem population which claims it never occurred. This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russia peoples looking the other way! Now, more than ever, with Iran, among others, claiming the Holocaust to be "a myth," it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets. This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide! Join us and be a link in the memorial chain and help us distribute it around the world. Please send this e-mail to 10 people you know and ask them to continue the memorial chain.

Please don't just delete it. It will only take you a minute to pass this along - Thanks!

It was horrible that is more then true but please do not mistakingly say the people looked the other way because they did not. Because of my last name and heritage I have been called a Jew killer when in fact the German people were powerless to stop it. My family came from Germany as a result of that and believe me they never thought it was right nor did they think that because they harbored some they were killed for doing so.

Thing is, it's not limited to the Moslem population. There are some dyed-in-the-wool fundamentalist Christians I've met who don't believe it ever happened either. Of course, they also believe the moon landing was staged in a movie set and that Elvis Presley is still alive

I was taking piano lessons during this time and my Jewish teacher's family was wiped out . I was only about 9 , but I remember one Saturday , we didn't take my lesson .....all she wanted to do was talk about it and cry . I couldn't fathom what the poor children were going through and the number of people gassed . This should NEVER be forgotten !!!! Without TV we could only see it through newsreels . I think it's about time it should be resurfaced for another generation to see what really happened . This cannot be swept under the carpet . Way too many good , God fearing , innocent people lost their lives ..... there aren't that many survivors left today .

First of all, that's just ridiculous. I hope that school board reconsiders.

Second of all, you can't judge all muslims by the actions of a few extremists. A local Lebanese man was the MC at one of the schools Remembrance Day ceremonies this year. There is a lot of beauty in Islam.

Bent out of shape? I know that it wasn't removed from all of the UK (I already looked it up) but it was removed from the curriculum by one teacher (see your first link). And it's also true that many different groups deny the holocaust happened (not just a few muslims). As far as I'm concerned it's a vital part of history that students can learn from.

Hmmm, maybe bent out of shape was the wrong phrase. I just meant that it was only ONE school, not the whole system. I know, even one school really is too many. I wonder if it wasn't a case of political correctness gone too far?

There will always be those who believe the Holocaust didn't happen, just as there are some who believe aliens speak to them on a regular basis (I could name a few I'd like to see taken back to their motherships). It did happen and it IS happening. Humanity isn't really very good at learning from our past.

That is messed up that it would be taken out of any school. I just watched Freedom Writers last night, and teaching those children about the holocaust was what brought them together. The movie is based on a true story, and it is really amazing how the teacher brought the class together by teaching them about the holocaust and taking them to a museum and having survivors talk to them. She had them read the Diary of Ann Frank, and I don't know if this part is factual for sure or not, but on the movie it showed that they got the woman who hid Ann Frank to come to their school and talk. If you haven't seen this movie, you should, it is really good.

Thats ridiculous! Sure it can be hurtful to a lot of people and family, but it happened (unfortunately). Even though I doubt it will even be taken out of the German curriculum. We learned about the holocaust last year and it wasn't just that we learned about the history, but a lot people we able to tell stories from their grandparents, great grandparents and family. I think in one way or another, every German family (and others that were involved in the holocaust) has a story to tell, and therefor it won't be forgotten.
We could just forget that September 11th and the war in Iraq ever happened because it could be hurtful. We would then also have to forget slavery and the civil rights movement and all the people involved like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X because it could be hurtful for African Americans. Technically we could take everything out of our history if we thought like that.

Ermmmm.... Sorry to burst the bubble, but the holocaust would never be dropped from the curriculum.. at least in the near future..

I had not heard this - and I WOULD have if it were true, so I googled it, and not a thing turned up.

A Department of Education and Skills spokesman said there was scope for schools to make their own decision on what to teach within the national curriculum

But he added: "Teaching of the Holocaust is already compulsory in schools at Key Stage 3 [age 11-14].

"It will remain so in the new Key Stage 3 curriculum from September 2008.

"As Alan Johnson made clear in January there are certain subjects which will be protected in the new curriculum and that includes the Holocaust."
Seriously - the war is something HUGE in britain. There is just no way we would do that......

That's why you should always research your sources. Too many people take things at face value, and you should ALWAYS do a background check.

The message this sends me is that our history is still trying to be erased, but due to public outcry it won't happen just yet. I'm thinking it's only a matter of time, though.

Erased, rewritten, revised . . . all you have to do is look at the last few election cycles to see that . . .
Never a truer word said..

We learned about the Holocaust, but only what they were willing to teach.. Anyone else have to watch "The Diary of Anne Frank" several times?!

There is a fine line between telling the truth, and leaving so much out that the past just pales into significance. I remember thinking, "Oh that's awful.. Hmm.. I wonder what's for lunch?" But since then I have researched it for myself.. And really what I learnt at school was just the tip of the iceberg...

What's that about the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?!

I wonder if people worry that kids are more sensitive to shock these days?
