I can't remember ever learning about the Holocaust in school (c. 1980-2006). Frankly, our history classes never got much past the Civil War (US) so that's kind of self-explanatory. I guess I went through the education system previous to the PC police. I was such a bookworm, and the Holocaust is such big topic in childrens' books, I didn't miss out.

Anyone else have to watch "The Diary of Anne Frank" several times?!

No, but I had to read Huckleberry Finn four times for various lit classes because it's A) the Great American Novel and B) it's a big anti-slavery statement. Blehhhh.

Never a truer word said..

We learned about the Holocaust, but only what they were willing to teach.. Anyone else have to watch "The Diary of Anne Frank" several times?!
Nope, never had to watch it - read the book instead (before it was banned for being 'too depressing'). I think I first learned about the Holocaust when I was about six... my pediatrician and his wife (office manager) were both survivors. I remember her showing me the tattoo on her arm...

I had to watch the movie, and read the Diary of Ann Frank. Plus about an hour away from me is the Holocaust Museum in DC which I've been to once. There's a wall at the Holocaust Museum that has names of all the people that died. If it never happened, what's that Museum all about??? Yes it is a very depressing place and topic, but its important that it never be forgotten.

There are far too many people in this world with very strong opinions but at the same time too intellectually lazy to do the necessary research to form an intelligent opinion.

We had that topic year after year after year after year. I hope they will not ban it anywhere since that is just dangerous and mad... but it is not necessary to repeat and go through every year. Well, but then again that was a German school in Germany and our teachers liked to play the "you are guilty, too" game. Sorry, it is horrible what happened but it is not my fault. People always tend to overlook what a smart basta*d Hitler was and how long it took him to *sneak* on top. It's not like he won one election and the whole German population was behind him. Nooooo.

We get the same thing here in school with the whole slavery thing. They say everyone's guilty. Well, no, my great great grandparents moved to Iowa from Denmark in the late 1890s, no one in my family ever owned slaves, I fail to see how I or any of my relatives are guilty.

Hey, what part of Iowa? My Great-Grandmother is Danish and went to a Danish school here in Iowa.

I remember both watching and reading the Diary of Anne Frank in 8th grade. Definitely not something I'll ever forget. I can't believe they would ban that book?!
