I have just had a perfectly dreadful day in every way. It was really awful. So I took the dogs to the dog park to play. To relax and unwind after a bad day. The dogs always cheer me up. We had just gotten in there, Uncle Fred promptly pooped, so i was walking over to pick it up when a very handsome German Shepherd suddenly ran at me and nipped me in the arm. I turned my back and he bit we hard in the right upper thigh.

I had almost changed into shorts before going out, but fortunately I still had jeans on, as it is I have a large, swollen circular bruise that is getting worse by the minute. The woman with the dog really didn't do anything, she just implied I was making a fuss over nothing while her dog continued to circle and snarl at me.

I hate how it felt. I was scared, and I don't know the last time I was scared of a dog. I have been bitten by accident a bunch of times over the years, but I haven't neen bitten by an angry dog since childhood.

Then Uncle Fred came flying over and knocked the shepherd down and pinned it. So then the woman grabbed the dog and I pulled UF off.

After that i handled it badly. I should have gotten her name and the dogs name and some contact info. I just wanted them out of the park. Keep in mind that I was holdiong a lunging and snarling and howling seventy pound dog at the time. But I just told her to take the dog out and not come back.

Clearly this was really irresponsible of me, since if she brings it back it could attack someone else and i have no way of getting the word out. if something happens I will feel responsible. I am hoping she has enough sense to keep the dog under firm control from here on.

The dog only broke the skin in one spot, thanks to the jeans, the rest is just bruising.

The perfect end to the perfect day.

That is terrible drmom :(

It's one thing (a very idiotic thing) when owners say their dog is "just playing" when they are being aggressive towards other dogs...........but to say that YOU are making a fuss over "nothing" when her dog bit you not once but TWICE

WTH is wrong with her? She should have been fawning all over you to be sure you weren't hurt and that you weren't going to bring down some legal action on her @ss!!

I am sorry you had to feel afraid of that dog today dr..........it's definitely not a good feeling, and I am doubly sorry that you had to deal with such an idiot.

Oh mom, I'm SO sorry that you went through that, what an awful situation, and how callus of that woman to pretend like nothing was wrong!!

I'm concerned that he did break the skin, even just a little... but I know you'll take good care of yourself.

I'm so glad it wasn't worse, and that you and Uncle Fred weren't TOO badly hurt :(

I'm sorry that happened to you. I know how you feel, I was bitten myself last Sunday, but it was by a FOHA dog I was letting out to take on a walk, not a dog owned by anyone. My leg is all bruised, and there are several surface wounds that are almost healed now.

How incredibly stupid of that woman to take an HA dog out to a dog park like that.

((hugs)) to you.

Now that pisses me off. Mightily. I'm just glad the bite wasn't worse! The feeling of having a large dog decide you are the enemy must be pretty dismal.

And good on Uncle Fred! So, now you have concrete evidence of the answer to the question "would your dog protect you," and PFFFFTTT on the doubters.

OMG. that is terrible.

Is there anywhere at the park that you can post a sign? our park has a bulletin board. could you post a note to warn people that this dog has bitten before and could bite again? This isn't something that should be brushed off. I completely understand why that was not your first or second concern at the time... not irresponsible. YOu had to worry about you and yours first.

I hope you heal quickly :(

Hopefully the dog's owner is shaken up a bit too and will avoid putting her dog in a situation where he will be tempted to repeat his performance. She has to realize that if he bites the wrong person, he's toast.

I'd write up a description of the dog, the woman and the incident and post it at the park. This way people will know to keep an eye out for that pair and she knows that she can't brush off a bite like that.

Good boy UF though! Wow!

Even though dog parks are extremely fun for you and your dogs, they can be a very dangerous place. Many accidents happen there so I would be careful when taking my dog there.

Before I go in I usually look inside to see the dogs first. If I see trouble I usually don't go in.

About getting her name and other contact info, you really can't do anything as dog parks are "go in at your own risk" type of thing.

Make sure to check out your bite to make sure you didn't contract anything.

*hugs* to you. I'm so sorry you are going through this right now.

My instinct is for you to report it to animal control at least, but without her name or the dog's name it seems kind of pointless. I guess you could report the dog bite to them, and if you see her again at the park try to get her name somehow, maybe a license plate number. Or, if her dog does bite someone else at the park you could finger her dog as the one that also bit you in the previous report. They might be a lot more likely to take action if it has a history of reported bites.

Also, I don't know how this would help but my gut wants to say, take pictures of your injury. I don't know how it could possibly help, but at the very least it wouldn't hurt to document the extent of your injury. Just in case.

While it's "at your own risk" as far as your dog's safety, I think it's pretty reasonable to expect NOT to be attacked unprovoked and have your own blood drawn by a human aggressive animal who obviously has no business being in public. Period.

That is so scary. I don't know that I would have remembered to get contact info. My head would have been spinning with fear and rage. I am glad you are (mostly) ok and that Uncle Fred is ok. What a situation :(
