I have some bad news that will be hard for me to put into words right now...
My precious, beautiful baby (cocker spaniel), Maddie, was attacked and I had to rush her to the emergency vet Wed. I was home when it happened {they were outside} but I hardly managed to pull the dog off of her and get her inside.
I was bit, but I will heal. physically.
Maddie has a whole on the top of her head that required 2 stitches, and her right eyeball came out of its socket from where the dog basically had Maddie's mouth in her head
The vet was able to put her eye back in the socket, but there's still a chance she could loose it. And if she is able to keep it, its only a 20%-30% chance that she will have vision in that eye... its not looking good.
Her eye is sewn shut with blue stitches and a button. A real button. Like one right off of your shirt The Dr said that it's to distribute the pressure of the stitches to the eye lid, because of the swelling...
She is on antibiotics and pain meds twice a day, and an antibacterial ointment that I have to put in her eye, from a hole in the corner, 3x a day.
She had a follow-up appt yesterday (Monday) and he is pleased that the swelling is down, but a little concerned that the eye/swelling appears to be up a little high in the socket.
so, there's still a chance she could loose it, but the odds are more in our favor now. She's moving her eye under the lid, as if she's looking around, and moved it away from the vet when he was examining her stitches. He said this is a very good sign right now.
She's doing very well, letting me medicate her, clean the eye, whatever. She has to wear a cone collar because she keeps trying to swipe her eye with her paw. She keeps crashing into things with the cone and I always end up carrying her up the stairs and stuff. My family has been wonderful with watching her and caring for her when I am at work... My mother, very amused, tells me that she is milking it and she can in fact walk up the stairs and stuff quite fine. That's okay, though, she deserves to be spoiled!
Other than that her eating and behavior are otherwise normal. She still eats like a pig, and tries to chase squirrels when I let her outside (I'm preventing her from doing it though). She sleeps a lot, because of the meds, and I believe she's maybe starting to get separation anxiety from me... but she'll be okay with that, I guess.
Thoughts/prayers are very much appreciated, but no I do not really feel like talking about specifics of what happened - I already am sick because I can't really eat/sleep after the whole incident... You can ask me if I'm/she's okay, or whatever, but please do not ask me to explain what happened just yet. When you think I'm ready you can PM me or text me or whatever...
I won't be on a whole lot for at least 3 weeks (the vet said we might be able to remove the button/stitches in three weeks), but I may post any updates if wanted (she has another vet appt next Monday)... so... yea...
Anyway, Please keep Maddie in your thoughts / prayers!
