Oh gosh Laurelin, I can't even count the times Sam has been called a "miniature pit bull". He looks identical to every 'designer' "Regal" (rat terrier/beagle) I've ever seen and met, so that's what I say he is. But he's far from a "miniature pit bull", LOL.

And Sam's also a rottie mix too, notice the black and tan markings! :lol-sign:

People are dumb. I had a guy at the dog park *insist* that Jack was not a purebred lab, but half rottie/half lab, papers or not....

It's lucky Jack wasn't there too--he is only about 60 or so pounds with a bit of a blocky heard--then you'd be harboring a PACK of pit bulls.......

I've had my Aussie mix, when shaved, labeled as a "Pitbull", or partial. I'm pretty sure when confronted with that, because so many people ask some days, I just agreed  He looks noooothing like a bully-breed dog. Even when he was shaved, he had a sausage body with a stubby little tail and aussie freckles.

It really does seems like sometimes, if it's a dog, it's a pit bull. And it's bad!

Why do people like to be hysterical?

I had to take Sawyer to the stables with me this morning. Since he ate through his crate and I really don't trust him loose alone in the house I had to bring him with me. But since he is still learn barn and horse rules usually when I bring him I just put him in a open stall. It not out of the ordinary for other employees dogs to be at the barn or even the boss'es Dalmatians Penny and Dot.

Anyways I was taking up Delsin when one of the students parents walked into the barn with my boss. She was peeking in the stalls at the other horses until she came to the end of the aisle to the stall where Sawyer was napping. She then kinda spun around on her heels and left my boss mid sentence and hurried out of the barn. I really wasent thinking too much about it until I heard her raising her voice after my boss followed her out of the barn. Out of curiousety I followed them out to see what she was so upset about.

Turned out she didn't not want her daughter taking lessons at a place that "harbored" dangerous pitbulls. Again and again my boss and I tried to tell her that Sawyer was not dangerous at all and wasent a pitbull but a purebred Labrador with papers. But she said that she knew what labs looked like and that my "Pitbull" had a blocky head and was too small (he's around 60lbs and still growing) to be a Lab. She also asked that if he wasent dangerous then why was he locked up? Both of us tried to explain that he was young and until he learned barn manners he would have to be in the stall for his own safety.

I honestly never thought anyone could ever confuse Sawyer for anything other than a lab. I have been looking at him for the rest of the day trying to see how he even resembled a Pitbull or Pit mix .

It seems like any dog that has a semi blocky head and a broad chest is a pit bull these days. I mean I've know several purebred labs siezed because someone claimed they were a pit bull (this is in a bsl area) and the ones with papers were returned but the ones without were put down.

I have a Jack russell terrier/Chihuahua mix she is between 18-22 pounds for the most part....though over the winter she put on a lot of weight and got up to 26 pounds (but since spring she has taken that off)

Anyways she has been called a Pit bull I don't know how many times and she is tiny not much bigger than my minature poodle. But because her chest is broad and she is strong people just assume.

a lot of dogs they see in the media that have been declared a dangerous pit bull aren't actually pit bulls....a lot of them I have seen have been lab mixes with possible pit bull in them.

In some places a pit bull is any dog with a broad chest, a broad squared head, and muscular.

Do you have any idea how many breeds fit that description. And any dog 22 pounds and up is game it seems.

Sorry didn't mean to go off on a rant but people can be so dumb sometimes and the general public needs to educate themselves on dog breeds and not believe everything the read.

I've been making a point to get to know and expose myself to several breeds (especially pits) and a well bred pit bull is a beautiful dog and looks nothing like a lab. But a badly bred pit well they can resemble a lot of things. Not to mention Pit mixes can look more pit than other breeds in them and then there are pit mixes that don't look pittie at all

Once again not to go off on a rant.

Bottom line your dog looks like a purebred lab to me and anyone who knows anything about dogs but to the average joe. Someones jackalabrachirottiedoodle could be a pit bull. In others words people see and believe what they want to see and believe.

And I hate that

Virgo was called a "pit" a couple of times. This is what she thought of it:

"You're serious? You think I'm a pitbull?"

"You must be joking..."

All the people who show Grand Prix at our show local show Park Thunderbird walk the course with their dogs it seems. One of the most well known horse trainers around here parades around the showpark with her lovely Pit Bull at her side. He is such a ham. Greatest barn dog ever. Never once had a complaint about him. Funny how silly people can be.

After having two people harass me for having Strider, a "pit bull", and a "pit mix" around Aurelia, because you know he's going to turn and rip her face off some day, I would believe any breed could be mis identified as a pit bull.

Here he is, in all his bully glory. Their justification was....only pit bulls come in brindle. Riiiiiight.......

Just look at that blocky head! . Check out that short smooth coat!

And that thick, muscular body!

Oh yeah. Totally a pit bull. I can't believe his breeder gypped me and the AKC.

Oh noes! They were right! Run Aurelia!

OMG I get that all the time, that "vicious pitbull"

Oh wait, maybe that's 'cause she's an APBT? Maybe...

Sorry, but your yellow lab looks nothing like a pitbull...too bad, would have made cute puppies with Lily! (no flaming, I'm joking!)

Once an italian mastif ran into my store and then out again...I ran outside to get him (he was running all over the parking lot, confused) and this obnoxious woman kept screaming "OMG ITS A PITBULL DON'T GO NEAR IT"

keep in mind that the dog looked scared but overall friendly.
I explained to her that the dog was a mastif and she wasn't helping (the dog would get near me and she'd scream it again)

Eventually I caught the dog and found the owner (dog had excaped his parked truck) so Im front of the lady I asked what breed the dog was "oh hes an italian mastiff"

lady rolled her eyes and walked away.

so yeah...these are pit bulls aparently...at least thats closer than a labrador.

 People can be just ridiculous. I'm very often dumbfounded when out in public regarding things I hear about my dogs. Dance has been mistaken for a Pit Bull as well, haha. Ya know, 'cause of the red nose and the blocky-ish head, she just has to be a pit.

My friend's Pit Sam was with us once when we were out watching guys fly RC planes about 4 years ago, and some woman came up and started hugging Sam, to the point I think he was getting uncomfortable, and he was pretty much into hugging. She was kissing him and talking to him, telling him what s pretty "Lab" he was. He was pretty close to Chocolate Lab colored, but had whit feet, chest and muzzle, and, of course, looked nothing like a Lab. When we were getting ready to leave, she asked, "Where did you get him?" My friend said, there was a woman who took in Pit Bull rescues and there was a bunch of pups that needed homes, and so we took him. She looked like she was going to puke! She let go of Sam like he was 500 degrees! She was angry that we let her believe he was a Lab, and that we allowed her to "be in danger". My friend told her Sam slept with his daughter every night, and was the best baby sitter she could have. What an idiot she was.

Sadly, Sam developed heart trouble and passed away in his sleep at 13 last week. My friend's daughter is 11, and is a total mess, as Sam was already there the day she came home from the hospital, and slept with her all but a handful of days since then. He never hurt anyone, and showed what a great dog a Pit could be.
