I am glad you guys are ok... the nerve of some people....so rude...It surely wasn't your fault he couldn't control his dog!!
I think he was yelling at me b/c he knew his dog was out of control, and he was trying to get me out of the way!

Imagine if the shepherd had been the one off-leash. That would have been really scary. It's astonishing how many full-grown men 'lose' control of their dog when it suits them. Curiously, I've never seen any of them being dragged in front of a bus, or taking on a lunging Great Dane.
If the other dog had been off the leash, I am quite sure that Jake would be seriously injured, and perhaps even me :(

It's those darn German Shepherds. Everyone knows they are vicious and will tear your throat out when you aren't looking.

It's terrifying to see an agressive dog coming towards us and for me I've found it even scarier now that I have Dante. I find that I'm much more terrified of what might happen to him than I ever was when it was just me.

It's also very hard work to keep our emotions under control in those situations so they don't travel down to our dogs!

Glad you two are ok, and as a Shepherd owner I'm sorry to hear it was a Shepherd that caused your fright!

:( Now, keep in mind that before becoming a dog owner I was afraid of dogs....

I was out walking Jake yesterday, and was almost at the leash free zone in the park where I could let him run, when I hear this guy yelling at me. I looked up, and he told me "Get your dog over to the fence!"--I didn't know what his argument with me was, so I did what he said and got Jake to sit. Then this guy comes barrelling towards me (and he was a big guy) being PULLED by this huge Shepard who is snarling and barking--really aggressive. The dog was lunging at me and Jake (who is now hiding behind me, terrified)! He had this dog on one of those choke collars with the big prongs on it, chain leash, and this dog didn't care one bit! He managed to get the dog out of the park and away from us, but holy! I was sooooo scared after that encounter, and just imagine if Jake had been off his leash and run up to this dog :(

I was amazed at the strength in this dog, and that this big guy had NO control over his pet at all :(

I am so glad you were both OK. I wish I knew a way to make those places safer. Obviously 'good judgement' doesn't work when it comes to yahoos taking their dogs into public.

I am just glad you are ok, I was imagining the circumstances and it scared me from here. Sorry that happened to you.

LOL. I knew he was joking because I had two GSDs who were wonderful, sweet dogs.

It's those Dobermans you really have to watch out for. Their skulls stop growing and their brains don't and they go psycho.

ok, ok, before anyone else gets upset.....DanL is just JOKING. He happens to own a beautiful German Shepherd ! I appreciate you standing up for the breed though. I hate to see incidents like this happen because the dogs involved always get the bad rap. Owners are to blame for how their dogs act.

it looked like a Shepherd (to my untrained eye LOL)--it didn't have any black markings on it, though. Oh, and it was quite large--I would have said it was easily 100lbs....do Shepherds get that big? (I now have to confess, with head hanging low, that I have never actually SEEN a real live Shepherd before)

One of my parent's males is 95lbs. They come in a variety of shades (as you can see in my signature) There are also white ones. It is possible it was a mix breed dog also that had some shepherd in it. I know a shepherd lab cross that looks like a GSD, but is blonde like a yellow lab.

I forgive you if you called it a shepherd in error! :D
