The dogs (well, only 2, Gyp and Sasha) just killed a kitten.
We had 2 little kittens (well, not little. Probably... 4 months old) who were living in our shed. From the shed they're able to get inside, or get outdoors. The little orange one was outside, and Sasha and Gyp were too. They're always out together. We've NEVER had problems with these kittens and the dogs.
They got her, and I went out because the others were barking, and I heard the kitten scream. She's not actually dead, but she's close. There's no way she'd live, even if we got her to the vet, and I have no way of getting her to a vet. She's bleeding from her ears, mouth, and she's panting, and can't/wont get up.
We've had issues with Sasha and Gyp both (Zoey too, sometimes) with kittens, but usually MUCH younger. Gyp and Zoey will both eat kittens, so we try not to have any (we have barn cats/indoor cats who really aren't pets, just use our house as a place to crash), and if we do, I work hard to keep them away from them. Sasha has only ever had one problem with kittens, and it was YEARS ago, where she was literally playing with her like a toy. The cat made it, with no damage done, and she lived a long, full life.
Now, our dogs always chase the cats, and I'm used to it... But I don't know what to do about this kitten. I can't put her out of her misery, but I feel bad that she's just laying there. I put her in a box, to keep her comfortable until she passes.
The dogs got an ear full - I know it's not right to yell at them, but I was so furious, I did. And I would yell some more if I didn't know they've already moved on from their cat killing.
I suppose the only way to stop all the cat issues, killing and chasing, is to get rid of the cats...
I don't know, it just bothers me that they went LOOKING for the kitten. I doubt she was mewing, like they usually do before Zoey goes looking for them...
Gah. It's just a rant. Please don't bash for my dogs misbehaving, or for my having kittens. I'm just the kid in the house, I can't afford to spay all the cats. And my male isn't old enough to be neutered yet, but will be. (since he's not old enough, he's not breeding either - it's tom cats that come to the farm).
RIP Poor little orange pudder kitten.
