I am so sick of people always bad mouthing Emos or secnes what ever you want to call them! If you ask me, they are just being themselves, well most anyway, but there are some who do it for attention... But like for me, I wear black clothes, I'd prefer my hair to be dark, but its only because thats how I am! I am so sick of people saying "Why do you have to be so f***ing emo all the time!" to me, and I just want to scream "IM NOT EMO, I AM ME, UNLIKE YOU AND THE HERD OF SHEEP YOU BELONG TO!" Don't get me wrong, I don't mind people who decide they want all the AE clothes, or the bright colours, but when they start calling me emo, and telling mo to fu** off and go cut myself, I could hit them all!

I do know what real emo is, and I know what what I call "Poser Emo" is. To me, Emo is someone who wants to be who they are, and if that means they like dark things, and want a million peircings in thier face, leave 'em be. I think the only time its okay to call someone emo is if they say "Im emo" first. Then there is poser emo, the people who have really blone hair, but dye it black, and wear it acrossed their eye, and all that crap!

I dunno why I am posting this, I am just sick of people always thikning I am sad and depressed because I wear black, and want a bunch of piercings on my face, and I have dark hair.

I AM NORMAL, WHEN I SMILE, ITS NO NEW THING, ITS JUST SOMETHING I DON'T DO AROUND YOU CAUSE YOU PI$$ ME OFF BY TELLING ME I AM EMO WHEN I'M NOT!

Anyway, now that thats out, I feel much better.

Thanks for reading.

All this time I thought that Emo was just kids wearing tight Tshirts and going to raves. Wow I'm getting old.

i never realized anyone actually called themselves 'emo', lol. When I first heard the term (and still now...) I get so confused, cause I had a friend named Imo, and its pronounced the exact same way, hehe.

I've never really understood the whole goth/piercing/all black thing really, and how that expresses who you are...I personally don't like the look, so I don't do it. I always just thought it was a style? Is there a certain message people who dress like that are trying to express??

Also, you say emo is when someone wants to be who they are...does that make me emo, even though I dress in bright clothes (which could very well consist of Express jeans and a lacoste polo)?? That is a legit question...im not trying to mock you or anything... :p

Ok well some of us laugh about Emo kids. But its those that are going overboard about it. Remember we were young once too, we had our fads etc etc. I am all for experimenting, but if you look ridiculous, and act like a moron, I will laugh. I dressed all in black and listened to death metal in HS. I still love metal music, and have a 'dark' side. But I have grown out of the need to display it, and have integrated it into the rest of 'me' that I have become.

I like tatts, I like piercings, I don't have any (well ears) But would like a tattoo..so its not like I am dising the look. Its that attitude that most of us who make fun of emo kids, find hilarous.

Morrissey (uh, The Smiths for all those that remember) was the CREATOR of emo.
And even Morrissey can laugh at himself. HE HAS TO BE ABLE TO. Ever listened to the lyrics of just about ANY of his songs?
Look up the lyrics for "Girlfriend in a Coma".

And if you ask me, all these labels are hilarious.
When you become an adult (out of school) and get to your 20's, you realize that none of these labels are used any longer to define people.
Just remember that and hopefully it'll help you blow people off better.
And also just remember that these people haven't figure THEMSELVES out yet, don't let them say what YOU are.

I like the goth look (though I've never tried to pull it off myself.) It's a cool looking style. Don't really get what "emo" is.

Goth and emo are very close relatives.
Except one is more creepy (goth) and one is more...pathetic.

Whatever turns you on , honey !! You're lucky at 15 that your folks allow it . Hmmm..... won't repeat the " you'll feel differenty in 10 years thread" !! Nothing is wrong with wearing black ...... but you'll have to tame back the rest when you are in the real world .

Ahaha I love it when people call me emo. Makes me laugh because they are getting it from nowhere. :)
And I also love it when people think you dress that way just to fit in with the other people who do... and the people who say that, are always the American Eagle/Hollister clones. :p

I think people should just dress how they want (within reason of course haha). I guess I'm lucky that at my school, people don't really pay much attention to labels. THey may think I'm emo, yeah, but it's not cliquey enough that I would be avoided because of that, y'know?

Mostly I just like being different from everyone else. I want to get some red & purple streaks in my hair just because it would be amazingly awesome and not everyone else has hair like that. I mean really, I'm in high school, this is pretty much my only chance to do weird things and be able to get away with it.

My sister calls me emo all the time. hah. But then she says "no, you can't be emo because you're not depressed... so maybe you're just alternative." Ooookay. And that's only based on a pair of shoes I bought, which she (and my brother) think are the most emo things ever. Arghhh.

Go back further Rebecca...Try Bauhaus, Iggy Pop and Bowie. Original Goth/Emo. 1970's style. My kind of guys. The Smiths and The Cure made it pretty popular though. (And I still say that the Cure's music stinks when Robert Smith is happy...lol)

I have been introduced to a new word, emo. I have never even heard of that. And I have one very young teen and a 20 and 23 year old.

I have heard of goth, and even have an idea of what it is, at least!!

I'm really out of it!

You think David Bowie opened up the Emo door???
I think David Bowie sounds too rock and...unique to be an emo starter.

I am so in love with David Bowie and Harry Nilsson right now. It's not funny.
And David Byrne.

I dated a guy when I was 16 that we dressed up JUST LIKE Rober Smith. We were at a party and we teased his hair all up and he looked JUST LIKE HIM.

I hate it when people bash emo's too. It's really annoying. I'm not really emo, I dress half way in between...

The whole labels thing really is annoying though. Jocks, preps, goths, emos, nerds, geeks... Did I miss any?

You think you're getting old? Who's EMO?
Eh, I just today proclaimed myself "old". Though I have for many moons lacked the ability to understand typical "mall talk." I was OK until I got a Real Job, as opposed to working in fast food where I was forced to communicate with high schoolers, lol.

Isn't Emo a flightless bird? Oh, no.

I'd actually be very slightly goth if I weren't what we'll call not exactly willowy. My natural hair color is deep brown and I prefer dark makeup, except I like gold-tinted lipstick. I adore Mediaeval Baebes. I could walk around in drop sleeves singing Middle English, Latin, and Celtic, sure . . .

My best friend in school was very much goth. She was Scottish on one side and Japanese on the other, so she had perfectly white skin and perfectly black straight hair. She battled it for years (it WAS the eighties, heyday of salon tans and spiral permed blondes), then the last two years went way goth. Her last year she went black and pure white on her hair.

Then she got accepted to the college of her choice and had to figure out a way to fit in at Bob Jones University, really fast! I think she ended up sort of candy striped red, poor thing.

Wow !!!! Bob Jones is really strict !!! Proper skirt lengths .... covered tops etc. !! No music except what the school pipes in and chaperone on dates ! At least that was the way 10 years ago ! Most schools here say plain shirts ( no logos )...no low risers etc . Some restrict colors . I'm for it !!!

Dig up some of his old videos and performances. He wore the makeup, nail polish, and crossed the gender lines on many, many occasions. Really cool stuff happened back in the 70's. :D
