I have precognitive dreams and I can tell those because they have an entirely different "feel" to them from letting off steam dreams or even important ones that are trying to give me an answer to something. Sometimes those precogs aren't exactly as they are presented - the message tends to not be completely literal.

Do you watch the types of TV shows I do (CSI and 24)? That would give you nightmares like that. I have not had a memorable dream in a while, occasionally I do. When I was a kid I would wake up crying all the time. Once I had the never ending dream where one dream led to another to another and I couldn't wake up from it. It was the scariest things EVER. When I did wake up and tried to go to bed it happened again. So I just stayed up all night. Then I got a dream catcher and it was all better but I'm sure that is just superstition. I always watched a comedy (Friends) before bed to get happy thoughts into my mind. Now I listen to music.

I'm the biggest skeptic in the world, but I have thought about that, too. Mainly because these nightmares are so persistant and realistic. Gawd, I hope not. I've heard of people having premonition dreams before, and I certainly don't want this one to come true. :(
What Fruit Bat said... exactly on the mark.

I would suggest you do your best to keep yourself and your hubby very safe for a while, Gemp. As Renee said, it might not necessarily be literal.. but I would not tempt fate. That dream (IMO) sounds far too much like something that could happen to you.

I've had those types of dreams before, where I wake up with a scream in the back of my throat and a face- and pillow-full of tears. Most of the time they are just dreams, but once it was not. I had a dream when I was very young about white and black vans, driving around, and they were very menacing. The dream had a completely different something to it, something that made the message stick. Later that year and I believe for a few years afterwards rapists in white or black school vans started hanging out on the street corners in my town, near the schools in the area. They abducted little girls.. many I believe were found days later, dead. Only in one incident did the kids escape. After several instances of this NO ONE and I mean NO ONE would let a van approach them. Kids would literally run screaming off the roads and into peoples' back yards if a van so much as slowed near them. Eventually the attacks stopped, or at least diminished.

My mother has also had precognition dreams before.. she can always tell them apart, as well. She's had them all her life. The second time she had one, she didn't heed the warning. She never did again... but those dreams have saved her life several times because she knew what to look for.

I sleep badly because I have bad dreams about Walter and his car accident. I am always sleep deprived and tired. Sometimes crabby. Going to a counsellor but doesn't seem to help. Good luck.

Often our nightmares are borne of our own subconscious fears.
Nice to hear that....I belive that as well - I notice if I obsess and worry about something happening, then I'll dream that it will happen...and then I think about it even more, because I'm afraid that my nightmare will come true...

3. All of the stuffed animals in my room turned into deamons with red glowing eyes and they came to attack me in my bed.
Don't scare me! :p *eyes stuffed animals*

Anyways, have you tried a dream dictionary?

I have one reoccuring dream that oodly enough is the SAME one that my mom has... and we have it at the same time. She dreams that she falls down this huge and long flight of stair and then wakes up when she reaches the bottom, and I have the some one... thats creepy.

Another is continuing. & it makes me think everytime because its like this life story of this girl, but Im not in the dream I just watch over it. And I just reached the point where she was caught in a fire; and didn't make it out. My french teacher thinks it has something to do with reencarnation and put all the facts about me together... and it creepy what she came up with!

Thanks GQ, that is a very interesting site. But I did have to laugh when I saw there was an entry on kidneys. Who dreams about their kidneys? :lol-sign:

And fruitbat, noludoru, Renee...I'll be careful. Like I said, I'm not one to believe in premonition dreams, but these were disturbing enough (and realistic enough) to make me a little wary. I guess a little extra caution wouldn't hurt anyway, right?

I know how scarey reacurring dreams can be. I hope you get some peace from them.
I had three different reacurring dreams when I was a child.
1, it would seem as if I was awake (even though i was asleep) but i would hear all of these voices, i could never understand what they were saying becuase I think it was in German. Sometimes they shouted at me sometimes they whispered.

2. I would seem to "wake up" but still be asleep. I would look over to the side of me and there would be a woman laying in my bed, she was stiff like a manniquin would be. She had ruby red lips and bleached blonde hair. Her skin was white and she was naked but her body like I said was like a manniquin. Her head was always turned towards me and she was always watching me.

3. All of the stuffed animals in my room turned into deamons with red glowing eyes and they came to attack me in my bed.

when I had one of these three dreams I would sit straight up in bed and through the blanket over my head. I tried to scream for my dad but my voice didnt work. I ended up whispering "dad" and eventually he came (I guess my voice might have decided to work, but I never remember actually being able to yell for my dad)
This gave me goosebumps. Not to scare you, but it sounds like something evil was after you. You are probably safe now though, now that you are an adult with a tough dobe by your side. ;)

A little caution may not hurt, but then the dream may be metaphoric in some way. It may have nothing to do with physical harm, maybe like mental stress or something like that to.

Oh I see that site has an entry on kumquats. Think about that one.

I recently had a dream that I was running down the street escaping Buckshot, who was chasing me dressed in drag.

as a teen i have bad nightmares and even night terrors
I had read somewhere that you find some music that i liked "easy listing" and played it softly all night, did this for months, it is supposed to keep your mind on something else while sleeping
never had problems since

Have you considered writing out your nightmare, like a story..but then write your own ending to it--have the struggle, maybe your dogs come and rescue you as well---I don't know, but it seems that maybe creating your own ending could help to push the nightmare to resolution!
I would also suggest getting a tape on guided relaxation, and learn to really relax your body, and use it about a half hour before bed.
Lastly, how is your husbands health? Anything bothering him that maybe hanging on in your mind? My Aunt had a dream, she went to the DR.--needed triple bypass surgery--had no prior indicators. Had she not listened to her dream and her intuition, she may easily have died.
