Following on from the lead thread... got me curious.

If your dogs never off lead, how do you exercise them?

How far do you walk them?

Do they ever swim?

Bodhi gets walked quite alot. On an evening we go down to the pastures (I will admit, not every evening. I should, but I don't every night). When we go down there it's not even remotely a walk unless we have been 45 mins at least or till she is panting like a mad dog. Which ever comes 1st!! Depends what toys and balls I have on me.

When I have days off, I usually go further afield.

We go the coast maybe once or twice a month, often alot more. Bodhi runs off lead, and swims in the sea.

Every weekend I go somewhere like the river (more swimming), or the wolds, or somewhere foresty/fieldy. We walk and swim and whatever.

When we go camping it's usually all day on the go - swimming, walking - whatever.

She's a very active dog, and is lean and muscular from it. Wish I was in such good shape.....

So... what do you do?

I know I could do more really.... But we all have our foibles ;)

They get regular walks each day(Molly gets 3 of them) and like I said in the other thread, we have almost an acre thats entirely fenced for dogs that they get to run and play in with us and the kids.

I run with Kai 3-4 times a week for about 30 min.

On the other mornings, we just walk for 30-45 min.

In the afternoons we do another 20-30 min walk.

And then we go to the dog park 2-3 times per week.

We also play a lot of fetch.

Two leash walks a day plus time in the yard to play hard (with me and with each other). Once a week we go to an off-leash exercise area to really get some flat out running (if desired) and play with other dogs. Marlowe takes agility class once a week and we also go to the training center to do our agility "homework" once a week.

She has access to a big fenced in yard all day.

We'll practice her agility for about 30 mins once to twice a week.

She's goes for a walk onlead for about 20 mins then off leash for another 45 mins everday. Where off leash she can run/jump/sniff/ect.

Come late October/November though, we go one about a 2 hour walk in the woods most days.

A short walk for us is two hours. We're normally gone for about three and a half. I don't ever intend to do it. I just get lost in thought and then some how I'm running late.

(my dogs only get walked once a day mind you. I play with them in the morning but we save walking for later in the day).

My boys have manic 30-minute fetch/play/chase/jump sessions in our backyard several times a day, and about a 2-3 mile walk and jog every night. I want to get a mountain bike again (mine was stolen), so I can take them biking in the state park. My dogs all loved biking.

I haven't taken the boys swimming before. Texas has been in a bad drought, and most of the lakes and rivers were nothing more than foul-smelling mudholes. But there's been plenty of rain lately. Maybe I'll take them to the lake this weekend....I'm sure they'd love it.

I really want to go swimming with the lads! I have no idea where I could take them around here though that'd allow it.

I have a fenced in yard so the jacks will play pretty hard when they are in the yard together. We also train agility pretty much every day, both dogs get worked. On days I don't train I toss the ball for them. We also have agility class once a week and trial most weekends. Lille is an old lady so she just meanders around the yard. :) Only time she gets animated is close to dinner! :D

It's been tough recently b/c Zip sprained his back leg so he has been on crate rest for a week and a half. He has another week and a half to go per vet's orders....but man...that is easier said than done!! He slipped passed me yesterday and made a bee line across the yard and back before I could blink. Couldn't tell he had any sprain!! :) He was quite proud of himself!! "look ma..see how fast I can make it across the yard and back!!"

Joey and Roxie get a two mile walk a day. They play and wrestle a lot together during the day. My bf and I go frisbee golfing about three times a week and Joey tags along. He has a lot of fun chasing after frisbees and following us from hole to hole dragging a long lead. Roxie is too much of a handful, so she doesn't usually get to come along until we know the course is going to be pretty empty. And we definitely can't trust her to drag a lead and follow us like Joey. She'd be off chasing the first bunny she saw into the next county! :lol-sign:

No swimming if we can help it.. not around here. Ditches, small, privately-owned, algae-filled ponds, and the mudhole that is a creek are not my idea of fun because they all get me a smelly, grimy dog who I need to bathe afterwards...

We go to the neighbor's very large fenced in yard and he runs himself crazy.. I'm there at least 45 minutes at a time, we usually like to stay for three hours, though. At least every other day, sometimes a couple times a day depending upon how the schedule is... I might only be able to give him 20 minutes before having to run errands and taking him with me, then 20 minutes after.. something like that.

I have a 20 foot lead that he and I run around my yard on... I cant do zoomies as fast as him, but it's still a good way to burn off energy.

He also gets at least one mile-long walk a day. More of a mental exercise (don't go after the bird, walk nicely with me) than a physical one (see how far I can drag mom!). That, and very frequent potty breaks and walks about the yard, fetch, playing tug, playing with toys, etc.

I feel pretty tired after typing all this. Off to sit on the couch with him and eat a tub of ice-cream! :D

I took Spanky out alone this morning. I had to run home because I was suppose to wake up Beau. I was like "OK Spanky. We have two hours to walk. That is it. Ok? OK. DO NOT LET ME BE LATE!"

and of course we were. But only by ten miniutes which is good for us. I am always late and my excuse is always the same. I was either doing something with the horses or doing something with the dogs.

Well, for the summer the dogs did a lot of swimming. During that time TJ was working on putting up our fence that we've been in the process of doing for over a year now...lol.

He recently finished the fence and the dogs don't know what to do with all the back yard to run in now because before they had a small portion of the yard we fenced off for them to do their "business" in.

They race around like crazy out there.. it's funny to watch them. They run laps around the pool and up one set of stairs across the deck and down the other set of stairs.

They play a lot of fetch with balls and dog toys. And then of course they have their horsing around they do with each other and they certainly expend a lot of energy when they do that.

They are both very fit and active.. so they must be getting enough exercise.

It goes so quickly though... I took my car for an MOT last week, thought I'd take Bo to keep me company.

I had an hour and half to play with, wandered off, found some woods (which were actually a bit creepy, obv where the local kids hang out and party - doesn't scare me though - I can party harder ;) ) and next thing I know, I'm jogging back.

Good to know I'm not the only one who's like that. Everyone else I know has a watch and is checking it every four seconds and right when it hits 15 miniutes they go back home. That just seems weird to me.
