A lot of companies here consider 37.5 to be full time.

I WISH I worked 40 hrs a week. Most weeks I put in quite a bit more, and I'm salaried, which means no overtime or shift differential when I spend all night doing a disaster recovery on a server.

How does your wife stand it? I'm getting a little sick of it myself... :p You nerds work harder than doctors and lawyers and other regal professions. Hmph!

My wife could care less as long as the paycheck keeps coming in. Our area really isn't that bad- we have stable systems so the 3am DR is not a real common event, but it does happen. I equate it to being a fireman, and making sure all my smoke detectors are working, so when one goes off, you put out the fire before it causes too much damage.

The worst thing about my job is how they are offshoring more and more to India. Eventually my turn will come up and I'll be yet another technician in a market that has no jobs for my skills.

Sometimes I'd rather ditch the paycheck just to have some of my hubby's time... ;) He works hard to provide for us, it's the downside of working for a big time company, I suppose. :) Maybe I'll be more accepting one day.

it happens with small companies too :(

it's times like that that being salaried sucks big time. Brians work JUST finally started accruing comp time for the overtime they work... and that was only because the employees finally told the boss that they had had enough. A little benefit of working for a small company... when you only have 2 or 3 employees you can't afford to lose them both at once lol so they have a little more leverage at times.

but he still has to work on the weekends sometimes, in the evening, or work late. I love staying home with hannah but my goodness... he is basically the only adult I get to talk to during the weekdays ... I NEED him to come home so baby talk doesn't become my only form of communication lol

Mit is on-call 24/7. So holidays... special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries... it sucks. Sometimes I can't stand it and want to throw his phone..ok, I did it once, but we were able to find it...unfortunately. lol

By definition of the words, I think it'd be 168 hours a week. It's all relative. But more seriously, I think in some other countries, their work weeks are shorter than ours, and some are longer. Besides, it isn't time being there that makes the company money (for most jobs), it's the results you produce. Too bad more managers don't think that way. No wonder there are so many lay-offs.
