Depends on where you are.
Full-time work in the state of Illinois is defined as 32 hours/week or more.

Yeah I believe anything over 32 hours a week is considered full time.

You could work 12 hours one day a week and it's still considered part time.

I always thought of the basic pay work week as 8 hrs a day / 5 days a week . Unless you are an at home Mom ! Really depends on what you do or if you own your own business .

I am pretty sure it is 32 hours/week also is full time. But anything over 40 hours is overtime.

Here in Indiana it is considered 40 hours per week.

I work 32 (8 per day, 4 days a week) and I am part time. How you get paid overtime is normally based on the company's policy.

The company I work for goes by anything over 8 hours is over time for that day. MOST places do it by anything over 40 hours a week.

I think the reason they don't use 8 hrs a day 5 days a week is because it doesn't always add up to 40 hours... some companies have you scheduled for 8 hours a day but you get an hour lunch that is unpaid... so then technically you are only paid 7 hours a day 5 days a week.

I think it's 40hrs is considered full time here...Doesn't matter how many hours a day you work so long as your work week adds up to 40. Technically a whole work week is Monday thru Sunday.

I used to work 4 10hr days and had 3 days off...gosh do I miss those hours...

Unless the government steps in ! We owned a family business ... five men's/women's stores . All were full time employees ... happy campers ! Summer times were slow , so we'd let those who wanted times off to go fishing , camping etc. to go . ( This besides vacation time ) .... well Christmas season was different and all knew it . Of course they had to work more hours .... Well one year ( Kennedy era ) we were told all had to be paid for overtime !!! Forget that they had fun time off !!! Cost us over $10,000 for 8 year back pay !! No one wanted to collect ,,,,,but had to because Big Brother said so .

Its usually 32 hrs/ week over a course of 6 consecutive weeks makes you full time. For the company I work for I can work 30-40 hrs per week but still be considered part time as long as I am not working that many hours for 6 consecutive weeks. We usually never get that many hours, but it has happened on occasion.

Agree Blue ....but our guys had many more payed hours off during the year than the extra Christmas hours . They loved to call in and ask if they could have a day or 2 off . It was like here at Chaz ... family . We didn't care as long as we were covered on the floor for the customers. One year people came in and asked if they wanted to join the union . No one wanted to !! WE treated them well until the governments dragged us down and finally put us out of business .
