not by the tail I'll tell you that much! I don't know how to catch them if they are loose because they are such fast little devils!

that was what i was going to say..no matter what Not by the tail! A little fish net like you use with a fish tank works, or trap it under a sheet or a piece of cloth would work too.

maybe use those sticky tape traps for mice. It's like a big sticky piece of tape you put on the ground and when they run on it they get stuck.

they are all over this place I go to... I don't know how to describe it but it's a big hill, going down and like a little valley with a bunch of bushes, maybe I'll get pictures of it... It's doggy heaven for cooper, and it's also full of lizards! If I'm lucky I'll find one that isn't in the bushes, but when I try to catch it the lizard scurries under a thick bush.

Oh gosh.. please don't use those sticky traps. Those are the most in humane things ever created. Have any of you witnessed a mouse on one of those? It's the saddest thing I ever saw. I was truly traumatized and would NEVER ever recommend them to anyone. Lizards are just part of the habitat in some geographical areas.

I never saw anyone use one I was just suggesting. I didn't know they were bad:( . My dad always used the poison when I was little and I would get so upset, mainly because when my little rodent pets got out they would eat the poison and end up dying themselves:( . I used to beg him to use something that wouldn't kill them like the sticky traps. I thought the lizard was inside the house!

oh, the sticky traps kill them if they don't kill themselves trying to get off the sticky traps. I used to think they got free from those things... but that is not the case at all. Most people don't realize how awful they really are until they witness it.

absolutely no sticky tape, u would damage it trying to get it free...speaking on behalf of the lizard, let it be free..watch em, photograph em, draw em but don't take away their wildness..but that is just me, i am never putting another thing in a cage as long as i live again.

My mom found two small brown bats stuck to her sticky traps she had out for brown recluse spiders, sad sad sad..they were quite dead by the time she found them, a horrible way to die.:(

kudos smokie... I am 100% in agreement with you. You might put it into shock and it might die if you catch it and contain it. Maybe you could just photograph them or watch them from a distance. Some of them are quite beautiful.

Those little sticky traps will rip the feet and tail off if you try to get it off the trap after he's stuck. If you can get close to it, grab it by the midsection. Just don't squeeze to hard.

oh dear tht would be a really foolish thing to do!!!
i have two lizards, 1's 2 foot and the others only like 9 inches

each have very different and unique requirements,

you would need to keep it in a vivarium which is the most important bit, its a glass tank with ventilation in the sides and a mesh top, you would need to provided a heat source, depending on the type of lizards you would need to provide a Uv light as well,
reptiles are very prone to stress and it will most likely die even if you get all this stuff which would cost well in access of £150.

all in all its not a very good decision to make, its best if you just leave them wild.

When I was younger I would always catch lizards and put them in big jars with twigs and dirt and leaves. My longest one that I was able to keep was about 2 months and then my mom made me let it go.

As for catching them, been doing it all my life. In fact, I caught one yesterday just to see if I was still quick enough to do it.

What I normally do is move my hand about a foot or so from them. They'll stop and watch you. At that point you, very quickly now, aim for their head and then snatch them. By the time they realize the hand is coming at them and they start moving, you'll have grabbed them by the midsection. Don't try and grab for the midsection or you'll get the tail and have no lizard at all.

As for food, it's lovebug season so use those. Those little black bugs with the red tops

At the minimum you'd need an aquarium (10 gal), wood chips, branches, plants, water, light, crickets (most likely if it's an anole)...that's all I can think of right now. :) Best to leave it outside.

Oh and to comment on the sticky traps.

The last mouse I saw that got stuck in one of those chewed its leg off trying to get free. This left for a very bloody mess as well as the mouse lurching forward and falling, face first, into the sticky stuff. It then smothered itself.

My parents refused to use the sticky traps any more. We moved to poison until our dog ate it and got really sick (she's fine now). Then we just let them go because the mouse traps never worked for us. But now we have three cats that we've acquired (they just started hanging around here) and they take care of the problems.
