Here is something-NEVER EVER GET A "CHOCOLATE'' PALOMINO!Palomino is a COLOR, a horse that is palomino had a golden coat with a white mane and tail.Quarter horses and Thouroughbreds are very fast and great if you just want to play-compete with your frineds, but they can be used for "get the trophy" racing, also. Clydstales are great working horses, loyal. Freisans are beautiful black horses with a naturally crimped mane, sometimes a tail too!The Florida Cracker Horse is a loyal horse, but you have probably never heard of them. Lippazzans are loyal most of the time, with a silky white mane and tailk (if you brush it properly) and a snow-white, or sometimes called gray, coat. Tennesee walking horses have a very unusual stance, with the back legs going as for back as they can go, and the front legs going forward! Time top bust out the big book or horses and ponies!

Im not sure if my horse was atypicle to the breed but my Morgan would not have made a barrel racer in any way shape or form.

Im not sure if that last list was a total listing of breeds or breeds for barrel racers, therfore my posting above.

Morgans actually can do almost anything.

Dakotah I know how much you love my opinion on these horses you are interested in:D

#1 HH Opportunity Knocks

15.2 hh at 4 years old so nice size. they say will mature 16hh [at 4 a paint is done growing so bull] waht you see is what you get

temperment is abit more hot then normal.
limited training so $4000 is very expensive.

Paints can start easily under saddle with light riding at age 2 and then get alittle more at age 3 and at 4 should be in full swing.

#2 Dashing Dan

5years old and 14.3hh he is alittle small but a really nice looking fellow. He is experienced in the ring so should do well and has a nice temperment.
$2800 good price too. I think he is a good one to seriously check out

#3 Romans Red Empress

4 years old 15.2 hh Mare so you will have heats to deal with. Some Mares can be bitchy when they come into heat. Not all but some.

they have her listed as a sorrel but she is really a chestnut

Bonus she is incentive fund which means any shows that you place in that are approved by the aqha you will get an incentive fund or money back from.

Still at $4000 she is very expensive

HI there, a great place to check out horses is www.dreamhorse.com , lots of great selections. As a horse person through and through, quarter horses are definetely the way to go for being competative in barrel racing. Although paints and apps are so much built like quarters now that they are competative too. Keep in mind a quarter horse can be born with too much color and registered paint, so not too much of a difference! And they are really into breeding quarter horse in the apps now too. Keep an eye out for something small, maybe 15.2 or under. They are more agile than a leggy horse for negotiating the turns and quick speed bursts. Also the AQHA hosts great events!

Seriously go to the dreamhorse site, there is a great forum there that I used to be on when I competed, a lot of knowledgeable people can help you out that are really competative! I think you have to register and log in for the forum to be available though.

Edited to add * I checked your list of possibles, and of the three the second was probably the best. Being new to barrel racing, look for a seasoned horse that knows what's going on. Make sure to vet check! And definetely read up on everything you can, then find a good trainer! Because anything anyone is going to send to you is still reading material, and should be taken with a grain of salt, it is a trainer that will really teach you the fundimentals and to be competative at what you are doing.
