Eh I slide in and out of eating a vegetarian diet, but I stopped wanting to eat red meat in 7th grade. I learned more about stockyards and the cruelty that cows endured before being slaughtered, and it just horrified me. I had the odd notion in my head that all cattle were raised and slaughtered humanely, as we did on our ranch. When I got Ripley 2 years ago and fed him a raw diet, I stopped wanting pork. It smelled great when it was cooked, but raw it smells foul to me and it just spoiled my appetite for it.
My family is not vegetarian. My parents eat a fair amount of meat and my brother eats TONS. He will buy a box of steak and it'll be gone in a few days, he eats 2-3 of them in one sitting. His idea of a snack is some sausages and chips. Despite that, the man is super skinny and pretty healthy. I hate him
My family is actually pretty supportive of the way I eat. My mom will go out of her way to make meatless meals for me (tonight she made lasagna and put no meat in part of it, for me) and I, in turn, cook vegetarian/vegan meals for my parents when I find a good recipe.
I'm not a true vegetarian, though. I think cutting back on my meat consumption is healthy, but I still like chicken and turkey (I prefer free-range when I do eat it, though) and love seafood. I also will eat meat if I'm visiting someone's house and they serve meat as the main course. Most of my friends know I'm not a big meat-eater and will usually make something with no meat or very little meat for me. With strangers or acquaintances though i think it's courteous to eat what they cook. How are they supposed to know I'm a vegetarian?
