Hannah is in the hospital again. :(

She developed another case of diarrhea last evening (not uncommon for Hannah, unfortunately) but this bout became increasingly worse through the early hours of the morning. Then came the vomiting, drooling and depression. She was taken to the vet, where they gave her fluids, ran testing and gave her medications.

They were bringing her in to me to discharge her, when she suddenly had horrific bloody diarrhea. Another cytology (she just had one about 10 days ago) revealed an extreme amount of white blood cells and bacteria.

They took her back to the treatment area and inserted another cathader.

The preliminary diagnosis I was given was hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. The cause? Who knows.

She is extremely weak, lethargic, depressed and appeared ready to give up. Please pray for my baby. The thought of her not coming home to me is more than I can take. The past three weeks have taken a huge toll on her (and Jeff and I) and seeing her suffer so much is breaking my heart.

Ohhh poor Hannah... HGE is very messy, but it can be survived... Ronin's sister Ginna had a very severe but of HGE last year, we all thought she was going to leave us... but she pulled through. I hope Hannah can pull through too... we're pulling for her out here in Iowa...

What's the long term outlook?
Right now, given her medical history...it doesn't look so great. She is under two years of age and has Addison's disease, has already bloated and torsioned, has some neurological problems with her spine, and now this.

I'm willing to do all that my wallet will allow me to do for her, as long as she is not suffering, but as of late, her quality of life has been poor, and I've started to have to ask myself some very difficult questions. My main concern is not making her suffer due to my own selfishness....but that brings up the whole issue of how do I know if she's suffering long term, or will she make it through this and be fine?

The Addison's alone can be managed....the problem with her spine is still undetermined and may or may not be treatable in satisfactory measures.....the bloat/torsion incident makes her vulnerable to a second occurence, but even that in itself could likely be managed, as with the HGE....
The real problem is when you look at this all together.

I think what has really done me in today is that I was looking through some recent photos of Hannah....her eyes seem so dull, she seems so sad, and old.

All I can do is take it one day at a time, and listen to what Hannah "tells" me. And pray.

Oh I'm so sorry for you and for that baby. I hope they are able to get it all under control. I know it's scary when they get depressed, but take heart. If they can get her feeling better, she will pick up.
