It was just a vaginal, SP. She used a long pipette (about 10" long). This was inserted all the way to the dorsal fold. It left about 2" left outside her body. Then the semen was introduced. She was immediately elevated for 60 seconds. Then the vet simulated a tie for about 2-3 more minutes with her gloved fingers.

I am certain we got her on the right days, and she will have a belly full.

:D

I was just wondering how do they get the semen from the male and if both dogs were together then why not let them do it naturally?

Oh, I am sure you'll have a large litter. I just have that feeling ;) My guess is twelve.

How many are you keeping? Male or female?

McKenzie, in order to qualify for a natural tie with this dog, my bitch would have had to have several hundred dollars of tests done. These must be done in advance, as they involve titers and cultures, etc.

I did not have these done since I did not plan on a natural breeding, so there was no time to have them done since she was ready to be bred.

Now, if you don't want real details, quit reading now.

The vet is prepared for a collection with a latex cone which is attached to a collection vial at the end. This dog is quite experienced, and trusts this vet. In fact, he will give her a collection at any time, whether a bitch is present or not. My repro vet calls these guys "frequent fliers". They know what they are there for, ok? ;)

So, the vet has the cone ready, I have my bitch with her rear pointing towards the door, and this experienced dog walks in. As soon as he passed the door, the vet covers and captures his prepuce (look it up) with the latex cone. The dog immediately begins thrusting. The vet then quickly pushes the sheath back behind the already swelling glans penis, and firmly grasps the dog's shaft behind the GP. At this time ejaculation begins. The ejaculate is collected in the latex cone and funnelled down to the collection vial at the end. After a minute or so, she pulls his penis, including cone etc, between his hind legs to simulate a tie while the last fraction is collected.

She then removes the equipment and leaves the dog to nurse his exposed areas, and wait for his sheath to re-cover.

At this time we let the 2 of them flirt just a tiny bit. Lots of ear licking, and smiles between the 2.

Meanwhile, the vet in the next room affixes the pipette to the collection vial. She inserts it into the bitch, and follows the above described procedure.

So that is how it's done.

Any questions, class?

Wow.. I'm kind of speechless. I'd hate to be the vet who has to handle a dog with less experience. Good luck with your Mama. When will you know if shes pregnate?

Hope it works out this time - seems luck hasn't always been with you..

Fingers crossed it is problem free.

With dogs, it is actually a fairly modest event since the latex cone covers everything. LOL

Meanwhile, my girl appears to be rapidly going out of season ( a very good sign ) and she is so lovey-lickey she can hardly stand it.

Speaking of which, July 9th will never get here, I'm certain of it. :yikes: ;) :D

Culture and sensitivity
Brucellosis
Mycoplasma culture

I was tentatively planning to breed her on the last season, but plans fell through for a variety of reasons.

These tests would cost me about $450.00. The 2 AIs were $250.00. In some ways I would have preferred a natural breeding, but had decided to go ahead with the surgical instead.

I think I got the best "bang for the buck" so to speak ;) with the 2 AIs.

:D

Is it July 9 yet?
