If you really want to know what dog is right for you take a trip to a few breeders and visit the dogs in their kennels/homes. That is going to be more of an eye opener than any thing else, even a dog show.

I'll be honest, BC and Aussies are not for beginners. They take extra dedication.

I dont think shes exactly a beginner though, and as long as someone is completely prepared to handle a breed and knows what most of the dogs in that breed act like, they (and she) should be okay. She just need to settle on a certain breed really.

thank you CharlieDog
I'm not a beginner on dog owning. I know what breed I'm looking into and I wouldn't be looking at them if I didnt think I could "handle" them.

I didn't mean to imply that you are a beginner in dog owning but a beginner to a working breed. Working dogs are several steps beyond the average pet. Many breeds like BC and Aussies are born working dogs and most people, even the most dedicated pet owner, are not ready for them.

Again...take a trip to the home of a few breeders so that you can experience what these dogs are like. I know an *excellent* BC breeder down the road from me. He produces top herding champions that win year after year at Baily's farm, one of the largest BC competative events.

FrenchKissed- I have fostered and owned (for a short period due to my mom, long story) Aussies. I know about this breed from owning them and my grandma have raised and showed them for many many years.
Now BCs I am new to, I dont know much about them but from what I've read and from what people here have told me. I have met a few BCs before but not enough to really "know" the breed.

Hey, Dakotah, I suggest if you'd like to get a good idea of the breed, attend a Flyball competition (Border Collies dominate Flyball).

Go to a herding trial, the Georgia Stockdog Association is a good place to find trials in your area.

And take a look at these websites:

USBCHA

ABCA

Little Hats

BC Museum

See if you can contact a trainer in your area and spend an hour with their dogs and look at personalities - see if it's really what you want.
