Sun this time of year in Indiana is a rather rare occurrence, Kadin happened to find a spot on the couch where the sun was shining through. This gave me a good time to play with the camera I just picked up last week.

if you do not mind a little advice.. the pics are much to dark. i know you said you are just toying with the new camera. what kind do you have? p.s. or digital? etc. my father is a photographer by nature ( he is a Dr full time), he has been for 32 years, althou the color is semi good, i would work on more light in the right side of the pics. to me it looks like the dog is being "cut-out" if you will, and needs more of a surrounding.

again i apologize for the comments, it is just nature being photographers daughter.

good luck with the pics

I've never minded people commenting on my pics. It was just natural lighting. It doesn't look too dark on my desktop or laptop...not sure if it's a problem with calibration on my end (or yours). On my monitor the color is spot on for what he actually looked like laying in the sun.

No post processing was done other than resizing. Not sure about it being too dark as it was just spot metered and shot.

It's a digital camera btw.

I think they are great, nothing wrong with them. It's very artistic!

this may come off witchy of me to say but being a photographers daughter doesnt exactly mean you know everything about photography. Im a Nurses daughter but does that mean I can give shots and put in I.V.'s? My dad owns a construction company but I dont know jack about building things. Again, dont mean to offend, but it irritates me when people critisize other people because their father/mother/grandparent ect. was/is savy in what they are critisizing.

Excuse my b*tchyness... im just in a very irritated mood... pms

Jennifer, I agree with you.

Honestly, I think photography is as much an art form as a skill. Some of the best pictures I've seen have been, technically speaking, "bad" - over or under exposed, blurred, strangely focused, etc. But they were pleasing to the eye... That's what mattered to me.

let me start by saying that i was not being rude.

i was simply giving constructive criticism, photography is so much different than that of a nurse or construction job, in those lines of work 90% of the work you do is cookie cutter work. in photography it is art, and, in alot of people's eyes art means alot to them. by saying that i am a photographers daughter, i mean i was there side by side with my dad he taught me about how lights are positioned just right to get the effect you want. he taught me about capturing the moment. he taught me about developing the film, what kind of chemicals to use, what not to use, i was with him in the dark room, developing pictures step by step. in your case Maya ( if that is ok to call you), being a daughter to a nurse, due to legal reasons and health reasons you are not allowed to be there to learn those things, you need to go to school for them. same with construction. legal stuff.

as for being a photo daughter ( if you will), i was able to have my lead me in the direction of photo taking, he took me to weddings, out on shoots to different places, he taught me about what colors, shapes sizes to use to get the desired color and effect i wanted.

again, i was not being savvy as you put it, just like if you were a daughter/son to a chef, painter,or cake designer, or web designing, you can be there hands on learning. however, with jobs like nursing, construction, building, and such, it is all a safety thing as well as legal. i am not saying i am better than any body, and the OP said she did not mind people giving her comments ( good or bad).

hope you get off your PMS soon, and see that i am not being rude.

they look good for being a spot metered shot, and the sun comes in great, its just that the background is dark, too dark. i would give advise on this, but, i will not due to people attacking me and saying i should not. good luck with photo shooting, he is a good looking dog, BTW.

Don't even worry about it. Some constructive criticism never hurt anyone, if you have suggestions then speak up about it.:)

Wow those are gorgeous! I LOVE the black background! Personally, I think if it was a lighter background, where you could see things inthe background or even the shadow of things, it would take away from the beauty of the lightin on you pup!

Those are so pretty!

I think those photos are spot-on, myself. Absolutely stunning...the darkness of the background makes Kadin's color "pop" that much more in the sunlight and provides an excellent play of light and shadow.
