My next dog will most likely be a Vizsla. That's been the plan for going on 3 years....? One day, one day

Other than that I would like (not in any order):

-Lab
-Field Golden
-Great Dane
-Poodle
-Boxer

I've fallen in love with the Irish Setter that is in our agility class. I don't know much about them, but man is he gorgeous and just a big loveable goof. I want him so bad! I'd absolutely love to get a Koolie one day, but I just don't know if I'm the right fit for one. But oh man.... THE WANT.

Also... I want a Flat Coat, but I'll only accept Mira so if I could get her shipped to me ASAP? kthanks :D

Breeds that I would, hands down, take if the right breeder with the right lines/temperament came along, and I were in the position to have another dog:

Doberman
Bracco Italiano
Shar Pei
Bull Terrier
German Shorthair Pointer
St. Bernard

That's the main list. I know it's an odd one, but I have traits that really call to me across different breed types (quirky oddballs: Dobes and Bull Terriers, big drool-machines and meat-mouths: Pei, Bracco and St. Bernard, sporter types: Bracco and GSP). I also toy every now and again with English Springers, and Dogue de Bordeaux (if their health wasn't so darn poor...but then, lots of the breeds I love have extensive health issues :().

Of that list, there are four I've actively hunted down breeders for, and have been in the process of learning more extensively about. I think the big guys, the St. Bernard and the Dogue, will have to wait awhile. My gut feeling for which breed I'll wind up with next changes from hour to hour, so I'm feeling a bit lost and chaotic on that front right now....

The last purebred dog in my family, a Sheltie, was exactly NOT what I'm looking for, which is why I've branched out so far and wide. He was shy (no!), barky (DEFINITELY not), not very pushy or velcro (not my cup of tea at all - didn't even want to sleep in the bed with people, I need a dog who lays down on the bed like it was always meant to be there), and small (generally a fan of dogs 30+ pounds, except for Poms who are my weird exception to everything ever).

Also after these two dogs I think I only want one dog per breed at a time. I actually don't think I'm a single breed person at all. There's so many dogs and so little time!

We've had a gazillion topics like this, but not in awhile, so time for a new one!
What breeds would you like to own in the future? If you already have purebred dogs, do you want to continue keeping what you have now, branch out to new breeds, or both? What interests you about these breeds?

I love threads like this. Begin!
I would like more ACDs down the road, but I don't think "next dog" will be an ACD. I don't think another type-A personality would be a good fit. Maybe the right rescue, I don't know.

As far as "next dog", I am actually thinking the right GSP. Which likely will not be until I am down to just one dog, so hopefully many years down the road. If I were to purchase a house before that happens, I might be willing to add one sooner, but I don't think I want more than 2-3 dogs at a time for a while.

Greyhounds and coonhounds are on the list too. And Field Spaniels. Someday!

ACDs are a forever breed for me. Anything I could ever want. Maybe a BC or Koolie someday in addition. Herders fit well with what I personally look for.

Boxer or some sort of bully as a side dog. I kind of want to try a Stafford or Borderstaffy. Could see us with an American Bulldog as well. Josh needs a bird dog as well, though not sure yet. Looking like maybe a Chessie?

Bring on the dog aggression. Eesh.

Yes. Because Abrams. And, although he's still a pup, Abrams has zero DA issues. His breeder was very picky about breeding dogs with sound temperaments, and that included dog aggression between her own dogs.

As for me...I wouldn't mind another Chessie, a female next time.

Other contenders would be a Labrador or a field bred English Cocker. Maybe a Field Spaniel.

And if I ever decide I ever want a herding breed again, I'll likely go with an English Shepherd.

I was just telling my SO the other day that I miss having a spaniel around.

It has been three years since I have had a spaniel type around as I was not ready to get another yet after loosing Patton.

I think I may have to get some sort of spaniel for my next dog...

A nice English Cocker or a Springer maybe...

I don't want another dog for a long, long time, but if I end up wanting a smaller dog, I'm interested in shelties and pyrsheps. I'm also interested in Belgians (all flavors) and border collies.

There's a cocker that used to be in my rally class that I'd take home in a heartbeat.

Basically I have no idea.

More Aussies... They're everything I've ever wanted. Fun, spunky, goofy, cuddly, velcro without being obsessively needy, incredible learners, ideal size, easy care coat, most I meet are friendly with people, etc.
Agreed. I briefly looked at other breeds, but I just kept comparing them to Prim. I can't get another Prim, but I'm going to try to get close. I'm going with the same breeder/lines for the next pup.

I have Border Collie and Berger Picard on my future list. Those are kind of the only "new" breeds I'm interested in at the moment, kind of been that way for a couple years really.

Boxers I'll always have. Which for a short while I was like "eh I could probably be without one if I had another dog" but... no. Just no. I need my boxers.

I will continue to have APBTs throughout my life. Preferably, I'll never be without at least one, be it a rescue or show dog. Besides them, there are a few purebreds that I would like to have or have again.

-Great Dane - a senior rescue. I miss my boy so much! He was an amazing dog and the reason I'll seek out a senior.
-Kelpie - They are cool dogs and I think I would really like one. I haven't actually met any in real life though. Sometimes I worry that they'll be "too much dog" for me. But come on, if I can deal with pit bulls, I can deal with a kelpie, right? That's my thought process right now. I did quite a bit of research a while back on them but I still wouldn't know where to start if I decided to get one.
-Standard Poodle - I've always liked them but I've really been drawn to them lately. I would try for a rescue if I went this route.
-Coonhound - any variety, really. I'm more drawn to blueticks and black and tans, however, and I'd name him Waylon. When I worked at the shelter, we were generally 90% hounds. I have quite a bit of experience with them. Again, this would definitely be a rescue.

I often think about just walking into a random shelter and choosing a dog. If I can't have my APBTs, I'm more drawn to scruffy, medium sized terriers, about 25-30 lbs. When I was younger, I remember meeting this dog at Petsmart. He was what I'd guess to be a BC/JRT mix. Black and white, tall and lanky, scruffy, wire coat. VERY cute! I would choose this type every time!

I'm getting a xolo next and then after that another Ibizan. I know for a fact I will always have Ibizans. Such an awesome breed.
