I do currently have a job where I make an hourly wage with no benefits. I've been trying to find a salary job, almost any salary job where I can get benefits. I've been applying to places, sending people my resume and checking out websites of major businesses. Most places have listings of available positions on their websites, and I've been looking at those. Most of the positions are for senior personnel, there are hardly any entry level positions available.

I'm supposed to be leaving this job at the end of August. The boss has people lined up to work for the fall semester, so I guess if I can't find anything by the end of August I'll be jobless, which would be bad because I have health insurance/credit card/student loans/pet stuff/gas/other to pay for. I guess I'm lucky that I don't have to worry about paying a mortgage, or for utilities or food right now.

I've been looking at IT related jobs and administrative assistant jobs and stuff mainly, I'm not sure what else to look at. I have just graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in IT. I can design websites and do HTML and CSS and use some Macromedia programs, such as Dreamweaver and Fireworks, but I can't build applications (programming) which is what a LOT of places are looking for. I hate programming, programming sucks. I couldn't even pass IT 108 which is very basic Java programming, and I took it three times!

I just need a full time job with benefits (healthcare). Where else do I look besides company websites, Washingtonpost.com, Monster, USAJobs, the FBI database, Yahoo Hotjobs, and county websites?

Ah, I'm sorry. :( Even though Mit is in the techy, nerdy field, I don't have any suggestions. I hope you find something soon. ((HUGS))

Do you know anything about Microsoft Sharepoint? You don't really need to know how to code to develop in it, but it really helps. Simple VB stuff, like calls to SQL.

My company has been looking for a good Sharepoint developer for a long time...

I also hate to say it, but it is no less untrue... If you want to be a website developer, sooner or later you have to learn to code. Almost every business website has some kind of code going on in the background.

I was going to say this, but I wasn't sure if it was true in most cases. It seems all hubby's company need is people to code. He's even so busy with his own consulting business that he said if I knew how to code, I could help him. But uhh, yeah, that's not happening. I have no interest in it at all and I would be horrible at it. :p

I know how to code in HTML, CSS and Java. I just can't make any programs in Java that are more than those little tiny ones we did in class.

ETA: I've been looking into graphic design, and I kinda wish GMU had a graphic design program. They have a continuing education course in it that I might take, but it spans six months, so I would still need to find somewhere to work while I did it.

All the classes I took for this degree didn't prepare me for anything.

I hate coding too - give me design any day of the week!
But graphic design is kind of a flooded field right now... there's lots of opportunities around here, but most of them use out-of-house freelance folks. And I am terrified of taking the freelance plunge...
I've worked for a few little companies as a graphic designer, and for the most part I love it, but that's still hourly stuff and no benefits... and small businesses are not always secure jobs. Don't get me wrong, they can be AWESOME, but I've had some not-so-great luck with them.

It's rough out there right now... you may end up working in something totally different than what you wanted or expected. Administrative assistant jobs are hard to get, too, because so many people want them. Keep applying and eventually you'll get something - just keep your chin up. *HUGS*

coding is not necessarily java. you can code in many languages for web sites. Other common web languages are PHP, Ruby, Perl, Python, ASP, ASP.net, C#. There's also browser side scripting: Javascript, Flash which are more about user interface than backend code. There are also frameworks for languages which abstract some of the messy details

PHP has symfony, cakephp
Ruby has rails and merb
Python has django

Javascript has prototype, jquery

and those are just a random sampling. You might not hate code as much as you think... You might just not "think" in java... Try ruby on rails, which is pretty darned far from java. Take a look at some screencasts: http://www.rubyonrails.org/screencasts
