She's here at the moment in my backyard. Her owners leave her tied out in their yard all the time. She's not allowed inside.

She's escaped 6 times that I've seen in only a few months. Three of those times I found her. The owners would come over with the prong collar and litterally drag the dog back down the street to their house to chain her back up after telling the dog to be "happy now" cause once they get home she's "really going to get it". It's been really hot lately (upper/mid 90's F) and she seemed dehydrated.

They know where I live and that she tends to go to my house, but they have not come over to check, put up signs or anything. All I'm gonna do is turn her into the HS. If they really want her back they will go there, and pay the fine to get her back. If they don't (which I suspect they won't bother) then I'll adopt her and possibly keep her or find her a better home.

Make sense now?

Honestly, if I got the impression that the owner cared about this dog at all, and just had trouble keeping her in their yard I'd return her again and try to see if I could give them some more advice on how to fix it. But I don't get that from them at all. They seem to not care, seems like the dog is just a lawn ordament to them.

Especially since I mentioned the VERY VERY busy 40 mph road down the street that she was heading towards to get to my house. They didn't seem to mind if she got hit at all. Either that or they are in denial that it's possible for her to get hti by a car?

Who knows, but either way. If they want her back and care for her, they can find her at the shelter.
Got ya :D ! Thanks for clearing that up LOL!! I hope you either take her yourself or find her a better home like you said! Good luck! Keep us posted :)

I hope they don't claim her at HS. It is the right thing to do, but risky. What if someone else in the family makes someone go to the HS and get her? Can you take her to a HS out of the area to ensure she won't show up and claim her? I hope you get to keep her!

Main reason I'd like to bring her to the one close to me is since I volunteer there I can visit with her and excercise and make sure she is ok while there. I'd be more into what's going on with her than I would be if I brought her somewhere else.

I'm not that worried about them getting her. They would have to pay to get her back, and I honestly doubt they would do that.

I can't believe that you haven't seen them looking for her yet! I'd be frantic if my dog was gone just the amount of time that has transpired during this thread. Now I know maybe they are looking for her and you just don't know it. But if they know she has shown up at your house in the past, I would think they would check with you this time! Wow--good luck with things.

They live right down the street, haven't seen them out looking yet. If you drive by their house the chain is lying on the ground. It's obvious the dog is missing, they would see it as they walked in or out of their house, so .... seems like they don't care to much. We will see for sure by Thursday though.
