is gonna be darned expensive!

I'll spare you all the details, but we have a house guest (long term). He's 18 and boy does he eat! We need to grow our own garden so if he gets hungry he can go pick a carrot or something! :lol-sign:

Do all teenagers eat like this?

Arielle really doesn't eat that much. She sometimes will eat breakfast... but that usually consists of a pop tart or something quick and easy. She eats lunch at school if it appeals to her taste buds. Sometimes she will grab a snack when she comes home from school if we have any snack foods in the house. And she'll eat dinner. Every once in a while she might want a snack before bed if she's watching a movie or her favorite TV show. But all in all.... she really doesn't eat very much at all.

I remember when my 4 older brothers were all teenagers, and mom would just be cleaning up the kitchen from dinner, and they would be hungry again and heading out the door to get burgers

Mom used to go grocery shopping and fill 2 CARTS! I have no idea how they ever managed to feed all of us. I shudder to think what it will be like when my two are older, and they are girls! Andrew and I are already starting to find that dinner just isn't stretching the same way anymore....and they are only 8 and 6!

I don't eat a ton, but both of my brothers did (one still does) and my teenage guy friends do. Mebbe it's a boy thing?

Um.. at least the one I know do! My nephew is 15, and he can finish a large pizza (and at another time, 6 hot dogs) all by himself. :yikes:

Yup !!! Cut the costs down by not buying junk food . Just double your own cooking . A second chicken or pound of hamburger etc costs the same as chips, soft drinks etc. Don't feed the machine , let the machine eat what's offered .

For sure, Grammy. We don't have a lot of junk food. We have things like pretzels... but no chips or anything.

We're going to start expanding meals. Leftovers for lunch the next day, etc..

It must be a boy thing!

Definately normal. I can eat a large pizza by myself and have room for desert. My dad went through this same type of phase (some of my friends never seemed to hit the 'bottomless pit' cycle, while some of us would order four large pizzas for the three of us) and my mom had three brothers that ALL hit the phase so they seem to understand my 2 AM Taco Bell runs really are that important. lol

My sis and I were huge eaters as teeneagers. It didn't help matters that we inherited my mother's insane metabolism. So we'd eat a big breakfast. Then lunch at school. Followed by another meal when we got home. Oh yea, can't forget dinner. Then perhaps a snack later in the evening.

My mom used to pull her hair out over the grocery bill. At one point, we were drinking 1.5 gallons of milk a day. Mom started begging us to drink the soda...it was cheaper. LOL!

Example... my soon to be 15 yr old son yesterday ate: a bowl of cereal at 12:00, a piece of leftover pizza from the night before at 1:30 or so. Then the late lunch /early dinner I made at 3pm... pork roast w/ applesauce, garlic mashed potatos, corn and ceasar salad with 2 glasses of milk. He took a break for several hours, "shutting down" to digest I'm sure, then at 7 pm asked if there was dessert, while he went thru the refridge to get seconds on the roast and mashed potatos. He has an appetite!

2 or 3 lbs of hamburger to a box of hamburg helper was one meal for my son and he could still eat an hour or two later. It was crazy. He is 6"4 plus and skinny as a rail too so i couldn't even ask him to cut back. It was ruff getting him raised on my own.
