She told me in the car yesterday that "she heard her blanket laff and GG said that wasn't true" upraising of eyebrows.."but if Shaffer heard my blanket laff..that would make it true now wouldn't it!" just thought i would share the thinkings of one 5 year old girl...future novelist!

Sounds like you have a storyteller on your hands :) Those aren't lies, those are whimsy and imagination. Lies are told to cover up or avoid blame. Don't let anyone make Hyia feel ashamed or naughty for telling stories like that! At least she will always know she can tell you her stories. :)

she tells some whompers too, but if you say truth gurl..she fesses up..i told mom that she has a profound imagination..we just sigh..she has hit that stage where they never stop talking..i use to tell Aaron i needed 10 minutes of peace..just ten minutes of quiet..i didn't know he would grow into a teenager that would go for weeks with out saying more then a few words.

You sure are blessed! The thought of a five year that has a laughing blanket makes me smile. Knowing that she has Mr. Schaffer to be her companion and "partner in crime" just makes it even better. In todays society children very seldom show signs of such an imagination! I agree with Renee, encourage her to tell you more. I mean I even want to know what made her blanket laugh! Thanks for sharing.

When she gets older, maybe she can start writing them down. She's definitely creative. Now about the talking, maybe I should get together with her since my hubby says I talk too much once I get started.

How cute Smkie! I can't wait for my grand daughter to get here!

BTW, where can I get a blanket that laughs? That would be a wonderful thing!

As long as she can differentiate between what is "true" in this world and what is "true" in her imagination she will be okay. I do hope you'll start writing down the things she makes up. :)

My youngest daughter had 2 imaginary friends. Molly and I forget the other ones name. She'd get so upset with me sometimes because I'd leave them at the store, shut the door on them, ect. I dont know how many times I'd get so frustrated I'd blurt out "Well they cant play right now!". I dont remember now how old she was when Molly and the other stopped showing up.

mom keeps a journal of Hyia things..she helped me wash Gg's truck this morning and hung out while i did a few chores then i dropped her off for lunch..then i pick her and mom up to take Mom to the doc...round and round and round i go..where i stop..no one knows..thanks for liking a laffing blanket.i kinda liked it too :D it was the devious arch of eyebrows that got me too..old boss would have said you can just see the wheels a spinning in her brain. :)
Mypy.Hyia's mom had an imaginary tiger..she would drag this rope around. I got a sketch of it somewhere i will have to drag up. I would have to move over in bed to make room for him..somehow all of this makes the hard parts so much easier...the work all worth it in the long run. I forget so much until someone mentions something and then oh yeah....Aaron had an imaginary mouse for years..it lived in his pocket.

lol, it can be so annoying at times yet you dont want to say anything to them. The time I left the friends at the grocery store, my daughter got so upset, we was already on our way home and she cries that I forgot Molly! I am not about to turn around and go back to the store to pick this girl up. So I told her Molly's mommy was there to get her. I had to reopened doors so many times to let "Molly" come in. It's all funny but sometimes she'd pick the worst moment to bring her friends in the picture. My ex's mother use to tell me how abnormal it was, I needed to have a physologist talk to her. I'd get so angry at that woman and tell her there is nothing abnormal about it, leave her alone. But she was also someone (ex included) who believed a left handed child should be forced to use the right hand.
Mom said me, one of my brothers and a sister and our dog would all take off on walks. We always blamed the dog and said the dog told us to do it.

Smkie ~ Look at what just tumbled into my lap:

Children tell stories,
but in their tales are enfolded
many a mystery and moral lesson.
Though they may relate many ridiculous things,
keep looking in those ruined places for a treasure.

She will need to be..there isn't alot of security in her future..no secure family..no secure funds, or old established family..she has lots of love..and lots of teachers so we will hope that is enuff..first thing she says when she comes over is "i want to see the dog forum please" so she is a Chazter in the making :D i am afraid we are a family of blanket babies..all except GG..i have one that i treasure, on it's way to being threadbare and tho i look hi and low i can't find another one like it, then Mypy bought me the softest furriest pale green blanket that Victor is just sure is his tho i tell him to get off of it regularly...i am pretty sure mypy came out with hers..and she still has it as well. Anybody else have an attachment to a blanket? Or are we simply an odd bunch

I have my favorite that I use when I'm watching t.v. at night. I agree that you get attached to one in particular.

Hyia will also have lots of help from all of her friends here on Chazhound as she grows up to be a beatiful young lady.

I have a "Blankie" that I have had since I was born!!! Lol! It is a yellow baby blanket with a satin ribbon edge, It hasn't got much of the blanket left but there is a bit of the ribbon, I used to rub the ribbon on my nose when I was little as a comforter, because it was soooooo soft! Lol!
I still have it in a box somewhere! :D

Does it laff? That is the magic blanket according to one little gurl we know..my daughter has the same one..(tho it is actually the second..the first was left on Dauphin Island Alabama right before the hurricane hit...we didn't realize we didn't have it until we were on the plane..omg she cried all the way to Dallas i was sure the other passengers were going to throw us out the hatch) anyway i got her another and she still has it. She was 3 when we lost it.

No sadly It doesn't Laff! :( But it has been on adventures because we had a cat called Tom (original name or what hey!) who used to steal it from under my pillow and take it outside through his kitty door! He used to act like it was something he caught! Silly cat! Was embarrassing once though because I came home from school with friends to find "Blankie" sitting on the front lawn and my friends were like "what's that!" I had to pretend it was rubbish and then get it out of the bin and wash it when they had gone! Lol!

Our big yellow cat, Gulliver, took my sister's blankie away from her . . . the only way we could get her to stop dragging it everywhere - give it to Gulliver! I know I'd never have survived her childhood if it hadn't been for Gulliver! He could even make her stop a tantrum in mid-shriek.
