I need help!!
My sister is coming over for the weekend. She has a great 1 year old dog named Daisey. Daisey usually pees when lots of people are around, out of sheer excitement. She spreads it around a 10 square yard area in little dribbles. At her house no one seems to mind, they just blot it up as best as they can with a paper towel and move on to other things. Her house smells like dog and they don't mind.
We have BRAND NEW CARPET and we are proud that when you walk into our house you cannot tell we have a dog and 2 cats. As a 14+ year dog owner, I understand that pets can be messy, but my dog VERY RARELY if EVER has an accident. When she does we clean thouroughly with petzyme and make sure it is very clean. I don't feel like I have hangups about dog pee, it's just that I try and keep a nice pet-smell free home.
Aditionally, I would NEVER take my dog to another persons house if I knew it was going to pee on their carpet (new or otherwise). If they asked me not to bring my pee-happy dog, I would not be offended and would gladly oblige.
I have asked her not to bring daisey for the weekend, and I am being treated like I am being unreasonable.
I have a feeling "miss-manners" would side with me, yet I am the one being criticized for being stodgy.
Am I being unreasonable? If not, how can I explain to my sister that it matters to me more if a dog pees in my house.
