Long story short Kaya was attacked at the dog park by a mastiff. She has two large cuts (about an inch each) and is starting to shake. The shaking goes for a few seconds where she sort of tenses up for a second then relaxes. No vets are open being that its sunday. I have cleaned and bandaged the wounds (I used to be a vets asst) but I dont know what to do about the shaking, how serious is it? I'm terrified right now, there are no vets hospitals open until tomorrow. I've got her laying down on her bed and covered up with a thick blanket.

I'm sorry I don't know...is she shaking because she's afraid or anxious? Or is it something about the cuts?

The shaking is caused by shock. Keep her company, stay with her. Have her covered in blankets to keep her body temp up. Make sure she drinks some water as well. I personally wouldn't feed her until the shaking stops.
Monitor her, and if need be you could contact an emerg vet. ALL vets should have a 24/7 vet on staff for on call purposes. It will cost a bunch, but it would be worth it if you are really scared for her.

There should be an emergency vet open somewhere, they are usually open after the normal hours of vets. We had to use one for our greatdane and they did a great job. They saved his life. I agree with the shock symptons. I would definately call your vet for an emergency number, look online or in the phonebook, maybe information will have a listing for animal emergency clincs. I hope kaya will be ok. Keep us informed.

There is an emergency vet in town, the problem is they are incompetant. Cannot tell you how many dogs we got in at the animal hospital that had been screwed up even worse by the emergency vets. So long as its not life-threatening i'd much rather wait until tomorrow. I'm not kidding, they are seriously incompetant, and as of right now they have like 3 lawsuits against them. They are the only one in town.

I'm so mad/upset right now, it was entirely that other dogs fault, out of the blue he went after Kaya. Ok maybe not entirely his fault, he was an un-neutered Mastiff and shes an un-spayed Great Dane, unfortunatly until they are officially mine I have no say in the spaying of her until they are. At that point she will get the snips asap. But still, she wasnt anywhere near him and he went right after her and mauled her! She didn't even try and defend herself, she tried to get away. That other owner didn't even say he was sorry! This is probably gonna cost around $500-$1000 not to mention poor Kaya thinks she did somthing wrong! My poor baby!!

I don't know, his phone number has been changed and he isn't replying to my emails. I'm beginning to think he isn't planning on taking them back but he seemed so upset.... I have emailed him with the information about Kaya but still no reply.

Did you get the owners name? I would have told him or her you are paying for this vet bill. Can you drive Kaya to another clinic? I would at least call for advice. Shock can kill an animal if not taken care of correctly.

How deep are the cuts? And where exactly are they located? She does have signs of shock and will understandably be stressed out. Keep her calm, quiet and warm. Keep water where she can easily get to it and moniter her vitals. Temp should be around 101. Try and clean the cuts with a little peroxide and put some Neosporin on them to ward off the beginnings of any infections. Unless the cuts are somewhere vital, she shouldn't be in any immediate danger, but do call your vet first thing in the morning.

you should have gotten the other dog owners information, because if Kaya is seriously injured and does require stitches and such, the other person SHOULD have been paying for it.
Its against the city by-law here to unleash a vicious dog in a public area...

When i was walking my beat back to city base last year, I witness a dog fight. A girl was biking on the sidewalk(#1 by-law infraction) had her unmuzzled pitbull by leash in her hand. A little Corgi just happened to be getting walked by his owners, those owners had a proper leash on it, the corgi was minding its own business when the pit lunged for it, the leash fell out of the owners hand, she fell off her bike and the pit just attacked the Corgi.
Because I was the first on the scene, I had to take statements report back to city base, call animal control and get the contact information from both parties. I gave the lady with the corgi, the girl with the pitbulls information for legal purposes with consent.
The girl who had the pitbull, didn't know I was on scene when it happened so was trying to tell me some bullshit story about how it wasn't her dogs fault blah blah blah.. when I told her she was lying to me she just shut up.
But.. point of the story is.. the girl with the pitbull was given the vet bill of the corgi.. BECAUSE it was her fault.

Roxie,(my rottie) was attacked in our yard yesterday by three dogs. Long story in another post why they were in our yard. She had a swollen eye, cuts and scratches and now has a lump in her flank and one on her chest. She will be going to the vet tomorrow and my stupid neighbor will be paying for the vet bill one way or the other. It would be the three dogs owner but animal control cannot seem to find them. They also attacked a chow down the street in its yard. God I am so disgusted with ignorant, irresponsible people. My vet was closed also but I did call the emergency number about her eye. I wasn't sure what to do as it is a delicate area.

How does that relate to this situation?

This was in a dog park...

Shes doing better now. Her eyes react to light, and shes not shaking, her temp is perfect at 101.5. She has one 1 inch tear on her inner thigh, and several small cuts all over. I told Pat we should go get their contact info when we got back to the car and were cleaning/bandaging the wounds but he said not to bother. They were kids (looked in their young 20's) and he said they probably wouldn't be able to pay for the vet bills anyways. I was nervous about going to the dog park but Pat wanted to take them so bad, and their owner said he took them all the time so I figured I was just being a wuss about it.

I am so sorry! I'm glad to hear she is doing better! I can well imagine how scared, worried & mad you were! I have to say that when I had my danes that was one thing I always noticed - other dogs (big & small alike), for some incomprehensible reason, always seemed more ready to go after them than any other dogs I have had over the years. Both of mine were neutered. My 1st one became dog aggressive due to it. My 2nd one thankfully didn't.
