Well, PG County is NOT the best county in MD, to put it nicely. There is a lot of crime in that area, a lot of gang activity; its a poorer area. It makes sense that there would be a lot of criminal types drawn to "tough" breeds. Thus more "tough" breeds ending up in that shelter. That shelter is bad, its very overcrowded and full of disease; its not uncommon for FOHA to pull dogs from there that end up having kennel cough, among other things. Our recent parvo scare, at least two of the dogs that had parvo had come from PG. The people there are trying HARD though to make things better. They are constructing a bigger facility. And a lot of rescues, including FOHA, pull dogs from there all the time, but so many still die, since they have such a high intake rate.
I was looking at the crime stats for PG County, their homicide rate is going down. Only ten murders in October 2008.
