People on BOTH sides are behaving like little children with absolutely no class and no respect for other people. I could pull quotes that are far more insulting than "you voted wrong." Some of them in other threads on this forum.

Neither side is innocent of spewing hatred and venom.

And unfortunately it will never stop.

Bi-partisan my ass. People only want to be bi-partisan when "their" party is in power. And by "bi-partisan" they mean "you stop believing in what you believe in and believe what I believe in." Compromise isn't a "thing" in politics. And why should it be? Look at how we the people behave. Nobody knows how to play nice. Politicians aren't held to any kind of higher standard because we don't even hold ourselves to a higher standard.

Every single election, no matter who wins or loses, people continually disgust me. Only a whopping THREE of my friends have massively impressed me with their grace and dignity yesterday and today... and one of them is even on the opposing side.

I am a highly political person. But I hate politics.
With how close the elections have been in the recent past, it is clear that we are a very divided nation, and it doesn't look like that will be changing anytime soon.

I agree that those wanting to move to another country are stupid, they don't have a clue about those other countries and that they would be moving directly into what they are trying to avoid.

I'm laughing at this thread, glad it's stayed pretty upbeat.

I'm certainly happy from a social standpoint. Fiscally...well, not thrilled, but I wasn't too down with Romney in that aspect either.

My thoughts are this: I would LOVE if America could stay the grand old America many of our forefathers imagined, where everyone has a chance at working hard and making it big, and the government didn't control all of our moneys etc. etc...but that just isn't going to happen. It's the 21st century, and the world is becoming VERY socialist. If we want to stay afloat, we've got to roll with it.

I've been staying out of the political posts for the most part but I have to say regarding the rapey candidates, well it was nice to be able to shut that whole thing down.

America isn't supposed to be keeping up with the rest of the world. America is supposed to be DIFFERENT. It is why people have been flocking to our country for centuries.

Well I can say good by to social security & retirement & watch helplessly as my American rights are taken from me. Now I get to watch as a health care bill I didn't even vote for is shoved down my throat ... Hey there is a reason I don't have health care ... BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD IT & yes I did vote but not for Obama he wants to take away vets rights too.

If hey really wanted to start somewhere they would stop allowing senate/house/congress members to vote their own salaries & have their meals/gas/cars paid for them.

We haven't been in a globalized world for the past few centuries. Americans are now seeing what other countries are getting - free higher education, socialized medicine, etc...and they want it. Fifty years ago you couldn't just pop online and start asking someone in Denmark what their government was like, you had to actually do research and people wouldn't bother. Now, people hear Canadians and Danes and the French bragging about their progressive systems and they want that, too.

Ok please don't come and cry when you have an accident or get really sick and can't afford your medical bill then... and guess what... because you're probably not doing any routine exams of any sort, we'll have to pay the bill if you get sick in the end...

The reason most countries are socialist now is because people are selfish, and as a whole, you can't count on them for helping people who need help. Honestly the idea behind the 'American dream' is a great one. The problem is that for every person that works their ass off and succeeds, there's going to be two more who don't (and not necessarily because they didn't work their ass off... maybe they got sick, maybe their boss was an asshole and never decided to promote them for whatever reason).

The world isn't fair. If nobody forced people to help others, the country, heck, the world would be in a way worse place. I mean, it might not matter to some of us now. We have jobs, we make enough money to live comfortably enough, we're lucky enough to be healthy (knock on wood). Remember that it can change in the blink of an eye, without you doing anything to cause it... when it does you'll be happy to be able to get help.

I hate freeloaders who decide to have kids and make the government pay for them. I hate people who don't do anything all day but ask for government assistance. I believe there should be way more done to prevent that. But some people really need the help, and I wouldn't want them to be without just because of some bad apples.

I'm afraid to look at my Facebook feed. I don't love Obama, but I don't love Romney even more. It is what it is though.

On a side note, it looks like medical marijuana will be legalized here. Yay.
Yaaaaay, we could all use some of that, I just don't think weed should be classified as a dangerous drug & be illegal at all, it's no more dangerous then cigarettes or alcohol. In fact nicotine is twice as addictive as Weed.

As acrimonious as everything got, I for one was happy to see people passionate about something and willing to go do something about it. The apathy was really getting to me.

One hopeful note on the ballot here -- there was only one race (an uncontested one, and I know him and wouldn't vote for that lying asshole under any circumstances) -- that did not have several independent candidates offered.

Now, the next step is to list the candidates in alphabetical order, whether by their name or their party name, not Democrat and Republican first, then everyone else after.

A hole in the bottom of the sea.

:D That's all I'm gonna say lol I love the POTUS and am very happy

<3 hands for everyone!

As for college.. it's so great to have a president who plans on making college more affordable instead of one who thinks the solution is "go borrow money from your parents"

and don't worry angry republicans all over my facebook who said they would move to a nation "With truly Christian values" if Obama won.. I'm waiting. I sincerely hope you do move. Go on. I've got some recommendations!
Because nothing screams "truly Christian values" like a dishonest millionaire professional politician.....

Congressional districts are entirely too large. They're about 20x larger than they were originally. 3x larger than 1911 when we last added congressional seats.

As are the state rep numbers, Texas has like ... 20 or 30 or something like that where Alaska has like ... 2 or something (correct me of I'm wrong) huh??? That never made sense to me.

I find it interesting that most of the politicians I have seen that speak out against abortion are men, which I do not think is fair. Men will never feel the fear, the horror or being raped & the added fear/disparity of discovering you are pregnant by that rape. Therefore I do not think it is right for them to govern this kind of thing.

Well America has spoken well see where it takes us :/
I totally agree with this.

It's based off of population.

Was Maine the only state to elect an Independent party Senator?

A few weeks ago, I told my mom and my best friend Jill Stein had been arrested. Both of these people consider themselves politically active and savvy. My mom said "Who is that?" and my friend said "Is that some trashy pop star or something?"

Nothing bothers me more than "If Romney wins I'm moving to Canada" or "If Obama wins I'm moving to Canada" as if they can just walk up to the border and be like "HI I'm moving in" and they'll just walk you to your new house and new job.

ARGH people are so flippant about it like it's just so easy... well it's NOT. it takes a lot of time and A LOT of money

we've become a nation of entitlement. Give it to big government and they'll hand it out.

Another thing that bothers me is "Free healthcare" or "Free higher education"... it's NOT free. it's paid for by someone and it's paid for in HIGH taxes (sales tax and income tax). All the social programs in the world are great but the money has to come from somewhere and unfortunately those who are already struggling to get by aren't going to be exempt from those high taxes...they'll just have to struggle even more.

Yes I know which is unfair IMHO, that a tiny state like New York has more reps then a giant state like Alaska doesn't seem like some states get a fair shake in the house to me.

On the equality marriage vote: GO MAINE!!! Hope other states follow suit; everyone has the right to be happy with whoever they want :)
