So I have toyed with the idea for a bit now to take the plunge and dye my hair black. Now its normally a medium borning brown. I dyed it about 4-5 weeks ago a really dark brown, but its almost like it took the color and just lightened it up. Doesnt help I had the blonde highlights left in it from months and months ago.

Anywho..... I am sort of pale skinned, so I dont want to totally look washed out.

So what do we think, think I could pull of black with my skin ?

- This was when i had dark brown, red, and blonde all in one swoop

maybe try a bit of black.
My best friend (dyed black hair) and my stylist wouldn't let me go all black on my hair because its red and they liked it lol. Plus it would be too much of a bugger to grow out. Instead, I did black fringe and a big black patch in the back. Absolutley loved it, still miss it now that its all grown out.

I have pale skin and I used to dye my hair the darkest brown they have(I'm not a fan of the blueish look when it's black black), and I like how it looks. I think you'd pull it off just fine :)

Jess you look great with the black hair!

Is it your natural color? If not, how is it when it grows out?
no ma'am my natural color is actually a lightish mediumish brown..

its not that bad when it grows out, just a little different since the roots are lighter than the rest of my hair lol but its cool, I really like it and it brings out my eyes, which happen to be, my best feature lol

Thats what one of my friends says is a good reason I should do it, my eyes. But you just never know for sure lol.

Renee, alot of people have told me about that.... def something to consider.

I dare not do this myself... I would get it all over myself and be a big mess!

So...

Who wants to come over and play hairdresser?

yes black can make a BIG mess..

what I would suggest, is to get some vasoline, and rub a thin layer around your hairline, and your ears... that way it wont stain your skin too bad

Just be sure to get a good grade of indigo. If you stick with the stuff offered on that site you're safe.

The indigo will give you a much softer black - and won't fry your hair like the chemical dyes. If you use a shampoo that doesn't contain sodium lauryl or laureth sulfates your color won't fade either.

Thats another thing I have heard... that black dye is harsher than say the other colors? Is there any truth to it?

My hair has never acutally "fried" in all the times I have colored it, shockingly. Its really in good condition, dont ask me how! LOL

That's me with black hair. Its a bit grown out there and you can see my blonde, but you get the jist.

I had a long winded write up going on and my stupid computer died. I don't know what happened.
Suffice it to say that I have worked in the field of cosmetology, and in my personal / professional opinion, black is a job to be done by a professional, preferrably one who has a lot of experience with said color, and that I think if you're doing it for the first time, its a good idea to go with a semi- or demi-permanent color (semi washes out in 6 - 8 shampoos demi in 8 - 12. You could also try a rinse which would be gone the first time you shampoo'd) black is not for everyone, and you don't want to be stuck either growing it out or ruining your hair if you end up hating it. A soft black (I'm thinking like 3 N {with one being the darkest black and ten being the lightest blonde and N meaning NEUTRAL} with some 1 N low lights weaved in) would look fantastic on you and would REALLY REALLY bring out your eyes. JMO, though.
I hope that helped, AND made sense... I was trying my damndest to speak english and not beautician!!! LoL

god i just spend a hundred bucks and 4 hours trying to get the black OUT of my hair.

If you have blonde hair its ALOT of upkeep because the roots stand out alot. I'd try the semi-perm first if i where you. :)

It would look good btw

If your hair is blond . . . well, black isn't going to be semi-permanent, no matter what you use. It might fade some, but it's never going to wash back out to your natural color, right, BC?

I like the look of black hair and pale skin. I'm pretty pale (my mother call me transparent...lol) and loved it when I dyed my hair black. My natural color is dark brown but you could definately tell the difference, and it made my eyes (which change from green to grey) look really cool and creepy :p.

Absolutely correct, Renee. It will leave it a grayish-greeny colour, more than likely, but with the color I'm seeing on Sunny, a semi or demi would be perfect.

The HIGHLITES, however, left over from last time, are what worry me. THIS is why I say GO TO A PROFESSIONAL. He / She will cover them with something closely matching the rest of your hair so you will not have an uneven finish.

Ok... am going to snap a picture of my current color for you... LOL And yes, I think going to a professional is the way to do it, in this case.

I don't see any blonde there, but what would REALLY, REALLY help me is if I could see it in natural light. I know its 2 am, there, but when it gets light outside, do you think you could snap another pic of you in the sunlight? Seriously, BEST LIGHT EVER for picking hair colors and processing methods.
MAN I wish I could come do your hair!!!!
