This is another one of those breed recommendations. I wrote awhile ago but this is for my stepfather. I want to gather some information to help him and my mother pick a dog best for their situation.
Here goes:
My stepfather has been wanting a dog for awhile. My mother wouldn't allow him to adopt a dog until my mother found homes for her cats or some of her elderly cats passed away. Now since that has happened, my mother is looking for a dog for my stepfather. Or rather, I am helping my mom in this search. (She just started in the real estate market and I am a recent college graduate trying to get a job in government) He loves all dogs and would be quick to adopt, instead of doing a little research. He has experience training a Rhodesian Ridgeback. My parents have a huge house on a lake and my stepfather works on boats quite a bit. He seems to be interested in golden retrievers since he bonded with the next door neighbor's golden, Jake. My mother would like for him to have a smaller dog and she saw some smaller goldens. I think my mother saw some female Goldens since they are a little bit smaller. He wants a dog that doesn't mind water and boat rides, going to the boat store with him and following him around. He likes playing fetch with dogs and wants more of a medium/large dog. (My mother hasn't been around large dogs since childhood and they were german shepherds. She has been around pekingese and poodles) The biggest thing is it needs to be a dependable breed and not like a husky where it will run away off leash. We want to rescue an adult. Right now, Golden retriever is at the top of the list. If not a golden, what else could they look into?
